Just me, you, my Mac, and the groove!
I play the music that is soundtrack to your life. Dig it.
Influences
This world and the universe it belongs to.
Pythagorus was the first to hear the Music of the Spheres, quickly teaching others to partake of the astral bounty. He knew the stars to be attached to crystal spheres revolving about the Earth. These heavenly spheres, eternally revolving, produce harmonious sounds only the truly inspired can hear.

I am Chris Allen - a Texas based DJ, radio personality, producer, musician, & writer.
Yup. The same one. That sorta queer dude with the hottest picks & the latest dish with his bits Groovelines during the hot central Texas mixshow Hypersonic every Saturday night at 10 pm on 101X in Austin. Yes, the on air version of the fab column in TWIT magazine. That dj that let's you have it relentlessly when you party your ass off at Halo every Friday & Saturday night in Bryan / College Station. That young at heart hottie that only shows the coolest dance music videos every Wednesday, Thursday, & Sunday at Meteor, also in H-town. And, the same guy that pounded the system at Threadgill's in Austin with phatt dance beats when he djed a private birthday party for Austin meteorologist Jim Spencer. The same guy that Stephen Moser of The Austin Chronicle still calls his "favorite dj." The one that spins all those fashion shows for Macy's in Houston and Dallas. The dj formerly known as Dig'm. Yup. I am that Chris Allen.
Once known as Dig'm, I've been djing clubs, parties, and events all over the great state of Texas since 1992. I've been in the biz since 1988. I've played in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, Temple, Galveston, San Antonio, Corpus Christie, and Bryan/College Station to name a few. Originally from the bay area of Houston, I moved to Austin in 1992. I started spinning at this club called Oilcan Harry's where I stayed put for nearly 10 years. That was followed by some time playing at Splash, Twist, Rain on 4th, The Boyz Cellar, Dick's Deja Disco, The Empanada Parlour, Guava Lamp, Charlie's, The Paggi House, and even after hours at a gay bath house. Along the way, my guest spots have included several Gay Pride festivals, opening events for the circuit parties Meltdown, Perfect Day, and Rip'd, over a decade of First and Last Splash Days on the party barge out on Lake Travis in Austin, several fashion show/receptions at Macy's in Dallas and Houston for Out magazine, I-N-C, Calvin Kline & H.R.C., pool parties galore, and many many more.
Currently, I am spinning in and around Texas several nights weekly. Recordings of my sets are played in bars, cars, pubs, bath houses, and clubs all over the world.
Drag entertainer Kelly Cline called it "a blessing from God." Kara Dion calls it "fucking fabulous." Nadine Hughes thinks it is "flawless, off the hook." Resident drag diva Coco Chanel claims it to be "a scandal." I have called it my home residency for going on 5 years now. You all know it as Halo.
I play to a capacity crowd there every Friday & Saturday night. 1000 or more people come through those doors weekly in of all places in the world - Bryan / College Station - the home of Texas A & M University. One could call it a small piece of the more conservative Republican Christian based part of Texas. But damn it if they don't come week after week in droves. At Halo, all the bullshit is left at the door. Everybody there is there to have fun. And they expect to be entertained. It's shit like this that makes small towns like this tourist destinations. Truly amazing! The drag show starts just before midnight and features a monthly line up of the state's top drag talent form all reaches. After the show - it is balls to the wall dancing til the club shuts down at 2:30, usually with a packed dance floor. Halo and downtown Bryan is surprisingly refreshingly cool.
In Houston, you will find me spinning at the world renown gay night club South Beach every so often.
It was 20 years ago in 1989 that the owner of South Beach, Charles Armstrong, gave me my first club gig - tagging parking lots with flyers for his club Heaven, where I later went on to become a light programmer for a spell and taught myself how to beat mix.
You can find me playing every so often on an occasional night at South Beach. I also spin videos at Armstrong's fab upscale video lounge, Meteor, every Wednesday, Thursday, & Sunday.
I've been writing music since I was a kid but never really got serious about it until after my father died. At first, the music was my therapy. Then, the unfortunate events that took place after Bush became my country's president un-elect only encouraged me further to pursue a life and career based on art, creation, and positivity rather than the negativity of destruction. I have released 7 self produced albums under the name Stiletto, Texas since 1998. My eighth is due out in 2010. All Stiletto, Texas cds are available directly from me via e mail.
My debut single on indie dance label Chunky Music is titled Fuck Yo Ass Up and due for release in late 2009. Remixers on the release include Cee Six, LTD, The Filth, and label mate Jacinta. Look for F.Y.A.U. from DJ C.A. for sale at Masterbeat.com, cdbay.com, amazon.com, or iTunes.
You can read my weekly electronic dance music column Groovelines every Friday in This Week In Texas (TWT) magazine - a fab gay bar rag distributed all over the state of Texas. You can check it out on the web at www.twitmagazine.com. And, if you tune into 101.5 FM in Austin or sign up at www.101x.com you can take in the weekly on air version of Groovelines during the mixshow Hypersonic every Saturday at 10 pm.
Groovelines began with a bi-weekly gay entertainment magazine called Shout that was in print from late summer of 2004 until the end of 2007. The success of Groovelines led to the opportunity to write cover stories and feature articles for the mag. I interviewed music celebrities like Annie Lennox, Pepper Mashay, RuPaul, Rachal Panay, Georgie Porgie, Thelma Houston, Peter Rauhofer, Giuseppe D, Thelma Houston, Francis Preve twice, Manny Lehman, Jason Jenkins, Bananrama, Michael M, Junior Vasquez, Mimi Rossi, Cyndi Lauper twice, Jacinta four times, Jenna Drey, and many many more. Groovelines ran every issue from the launch of the magazine until the very last issue. Samples of my writing are available from me and by checking out my blog archive here at MySpace. My latest cover stories for TWIT include my interviews with Blake Lewis and Kristine W.
In 2005, I was approached by DJ and radio personality Jason Jenkins to do an on air version of my Groovelines column for his mixshow Hypersonic. Our first showed aired in June of 2006 on Pride weekend. It featured Jason Jenkins mixing the beats and commentary, legendary bad boy Toddy B with the street scene tip list, and my bits - Groovelines and Groovelines Gossip. We haven't missed a weekend (on purpose) since day one. As we approach the end of year 3 of our little show we have added Austin club diva Jackie-OH to the mix to keep all those fabulous ladies clued in to what's goin' down. One of the highlights of Hypersonic is the line-up of guest djs - a different new local club jock is featured and interviewed every week. Hypersonic airs every Saturday night at 10 PM on 101.5 FM and www.101x.com as well as www.hypersonicradio.com. Tune in. Check it out. It's fun, fresh, and quite very!
Tune into www.../djchrisallen and enjoy my live electronic dance music mixshow broadcast every Tuesday at 10 PM. For just over an hour or so I rock it right with a set of energized progressive and mainstream dance music. And it is totally free. Tune in. Turn it up. Be there, or be boring.
Basically it is my understanding, I'm just here to spread the groove ya'll. And I gotta say, I love this damn job!
