  • Music

..I like music of all kind. Classical was the first music got interested in. . .and really just violin music at that. My first introduction to pop music was to what was, at the time, called clasic rock (Jimi, Janis, Jim etc.)That morphed into Nirvana, S.T.P, and the Chillie Peppers. Today I listen to any and everything. . .Imogen Heap is a recent obsession. . .I like jazz of all flavors but, of course Coltrane and his contemporaries where the first I heard and the biggest influence on me. . .Recent albums I downloaded or bought at the store include: Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Gabriella Montero, Moudest Mouse, The Futureheads, Death Cab For Cutie, Jack Johnson, Greenday, Yellow Card, and The Essential Ravi Shankar. My favorite classical composers (in no particular order)are Mahler, Strauss, Brahms, Beethoven, Torke, Adams, Copland Szymanowski, Part, Corigliano, and Chris Theofanidis. I also think Joshua Bell, Maxim Vengerov, and Gidon Kremer and Anne-Sophie Mutter are some the best violinist the world has seen. . .ever (Leonidas Kavakos is also amazing) I also like anything electronic and anything that uses traditional classical instruments in unusual ways (Some have called it alt-classical). Zoe Keating and Daniel Bernard Rmounain are two artists I was recently introduced to who fit that bill.
  • Movies

..I'll watch just about anything but somehow Stealing Beauty is the one I have wathced the most in recent days. I also like The Dreamers. (by the same director) Seven, Silence of the Lambs, Crash
  • Television

..Seinfeld is and will always be the show that makes me laugh the most regardless of my mood. . .Will and Grace can almost do the same thing. Don't tell anyone but, I regularly watch The O.C. (Thanks to Jen for being my "Tivo" even thought I don't even have cable) and sometimes keep up with American Idol (Don't hate!)
  • Books

..Currently reading stuff by Augusten Burroughs so it follows that I love David Sedaris. I've read most of Hermann Hesse's work. Favorite read of recent times was Nick Flynn's "Another Bullshit Night in Suck City" (It's awesome and is actually a memoir written largley in the form of prose poetry. . .a point I totally missed when I interviewed him but, whatever, he was one of my firsts and I loved the book) I guess I like memoirs. . .
  • Heroes

..Charlie Rose. . .he is the man. He is also from my home state of North Carolina and yes I am a nerd. I think John Shaeffer at WNYC has quite possibly the coolest job in public radio.

Blurbs

About me:

.... By day, for Houston Public Radio as the host of "The Afternoon Concert" Weekdays, 1:00 - 3:00PM Central) on 88.7 FM (You can check it out live at www.kuhf.org.) My principal obsession in life as always been music. Untill recently I was planning on pursuing a career as a violinist but, if violin was my first love then radio is the mistress who stole my heart. I now work full time programming and hosting my show and doing interviews and other web related stuff and keep up my fiddle chops by playing a little here and there with various groups around Southeast Texas and also as a member of the KUHF Ensemble. I grew up in North Carolina, graduated High School in Jacksonville, FL, and have made Houston home since 1996.
