BrazenBunch DJ and Resident at the Exchange Bar, Soho
.
- REVIEW BY LAURA HAYES (MEDIA JOURNALIST)
DJ Claire Zak’s blend of soulful beats is guaranteed to lend any venue a great vibe. Her funky tunes take you to all corners of the globe as Claire’s influences come from Brazil to Berlin. Mix with that some of London’s hottest new sounds and you’ll find Claire’s infectious beats stirring any dance floor.
But it’s not all about the freshest rhythms, Claire has a keen ear for vintage classics from well known favourites to rare gems.
Art and music are in Claire’s blood. She grew up surrounded by a family of artists, DJs and musicians.
Studying piano and clarinet at a young age, Claire eventually found her fit with the saxophone. She regularly jammed in Brixton’s ’The Effra’ and New Cross’ ’Paradise Bar’ as well as in reggae band ’Lion Sound’ while studying Art at University.
These days Claire loves hunting out new sounds and three years ago she converted half her art studio into a music studio to shift her creative focus towards music and sonic art.
With her extensive musical collection, knowledge of musical arrangements, rhythm and love of performing, opportunities unfolded that led her to become a resident DJ at Soho’s ’Exchange Bar’ and is frequently booked for festivals and private parties.

“One of the best things we did to get Oxjam jamming was to hire DJ Claire Zak”
The Exchange, Soho
DJ Claire Zak spins her trademark blend of alternative soul, jazz, funk, electronica and house
EVERY OTHER THURSDAY 7 - 11pm
The Exchange, 32 Gerrard Street, Soho W1D 6JA
"Described as a ’music led dj bar’, the Exchange is the kinda place you’d walk into and feel like you’re in the East End rather than the West.
DJ Claire Zak has the place swinging every other Thursday night with her funky beats and infectious vibe.
Situated in China Town, this industrial styled bar is very spacious inside with large silver pipings clinging to the high ceilings and ample seating - large comfy sofas on the perimeter are a must if you get there early enough.
There’s a great 2 for 1 cocktail on offer from 5pm till closing 11pm, this has got to be one of the cheapest places to drink in Soho. Food is a bonus here with great offers on wood fired pizza and salads, 5pm till close."
"At last a follow up to Janette Mason's sparkling debut as leader. Alien Left Hand ....was well worth the wait…” Production **** Performance**** -- BBC Music Magazine
“…an album fizzing with fresh ideas and delights, an exhilarating musical journey .. with brilliantly original writing and inspired playing…” -- Helen Mayhew
"Every track from the rhythmic ‘NY Cab Ride’ and restless ‘4 Wheel Drive’ to the brooding ‘Mae’s Song’ has a terrific hook but it’s the way Mason switches tempo and moods that makes ALH great fun. " -- Diva Magazine
