I come from a hip hop background growing up in the eighties mixing and scratching old electro and booty bass records,I soon wanted to produce my own music and set about making tapes of old skool hip hip beat loops (such as the amen break from straight outta compton!) using a pause record edit technique comparable to that of cassette boy and various other plunderphonic misfits! It's funny because when i was in school i stole a tape machine from our english department which had a speed dial on it thus allowing me to play back what i had done pitched up! to be honest it was basically some kind of dance music at a time where i was'nt really aware of the underground rave scene that was about to blow up!
After dabbling in psychoactive substances (hence the dj name)
- i say dabbling-more like fifteen years of hardcore abuse!
- and listening to the likes of one Richard.D.james i got the urge to experiment with abstract beats and noises and be less conformist about my music, add the insanity brought on by drug abuse and prolonged sleep deprivation and we arrive at the current breakcore/gabber/glitch scene where i currently sit making all kinds of mad and silly noise,i can never make serious music - whatever i do the idea of it is to just be silly while makin you tap your feet although you can still hear the hip hop in it sometimes!
I have been running a few nights in Plymouth in the last 4 years such as Dimensional Schizm and Cybernetic which focus on live gabber/breakcore/electronica, I also ran a few psytrance/techno events - Teleport and The Badger's Ball - the latter being the only one still going strong! However Dimensional Schizm always threatens to return! Previous events have seen the likes of Shitmat,Ebola,Dj Floorclearer,Judith Priest,Ladyscraper,Capslock,Producer,Dolphin,Scorpio,Violent Tendancies, Mertcore,Monster Plastic,Helix,Corecontax,Swampyboy and our good friend Jonny3snares! Big ups to my long standing resident dj's and good friends Hip.P,Assassin,Hektek and Outlaw! Dimensional Schizm lives on in the form of the schiztraxx cd compilations featuring some of the associated artists, there have been 4 of these badboys so far with more projects in the pipeline, they can be downloaded or listened to here -
