Bio:

Although DJ Cosmo was crowned Canada’s most versatile DJ after only fifteen minutes on the decks, getting there wasn’t actually that fast. Making it to the top of the throne of DJ talent in the country in the Red Bull 3styles competition 2009, flying over 80 competitors in 10 major cities in Canada, Cosmo took the Number One spot last year in the Toronto finals. But before making his name known from coast to coast with that fifteen-minute set that is now the stuff of legends, years of hard work and love of music preceded.

DJ Cosmo is a true product of his time. Born in France, then migrating to Nova Scotia and Quebec in his teens, he first started growing as a DJ in Montreal- where he witnessed his first battles and got a taste of turntablism. This is 1999, the golden age of DMC battles and the second wave of turntable culture. Witnessing the hometown hero and world champ in action (A-trak and his crew the Allies) at scratch nights around the city, Cosmo took it all in like a sponge and witnessed the early steps of some of his contemporaries like DR One, Mana, and Jr Flo. Buying his equipment with student loans, he manages to cop a set of Technics and moves back home, dedicating his life to honing DJ skills.

He soon began taking his talents to another level by rocking parties in Halifax alongside local legends Skratch Bastid and JoRun and then eventually opening for big rap names like Nas, Gza, and Lupe Fiasco, among others. After taking home award after award in the local DJ scene, Cosmo partners up with MC Ghettosocks- the beginning of a fruitful musical partnership and his first dabble with production work. Now, he’s got production credits under his belt for Black Union, Ruby Jean and on his own album Skinny Power, which features a slew of local rap talent. He is also launching a new weekly night in Montreal called GET NICE, giving him the chance to showcase his skills in the city that first made him fall in love with DJing. A true lover of vinyl, Cosmo always manages to match old school DJ ideals with new technology, providing a crowd pleasing blend of hip hop turntablism, classics, and electro. You can believe bigger and better things are on the horizon for this dude.

To put it simply in his own words: “Beatmaking and rocking parties; that’s my thing, that’s what I do.”
