Don’t blame us! As of next week, I’m sorry to tell you, there’s going to be a cover charge for Gosh & Dig of $5.
PPCA (Phonographic Performance Company of Australia) represents record labels & recording artists. Over the last 2 years, they’ve increased their fees to venues featuring dj’s by 1,000%. No, there’s no way out. This is national & the AHA (Australian Hotels Association) has fought this in court & lost. Many other venues have been charging an entry fee & Jive can no longer wear the cost. So there’ll now be a $5 entry fee. This goes to PPCA who pay the artists & also donate some funds to various music based charities & grants. PPCA have also hit fitness centres for up to 4,000% & are currently targeting cafes & restaurants for up to 2,000%. There’s a lot of angry people, but the courts have sided with PPCA. The bottom line is they believe everyone has to pay to hear recorded music. Go figure.
