-- MEXICAN -- A CHICAGO BOY (Logan Square) -- MARRIED -- OCCUPATION: IT DB ADMIN -- NO CHILDREN -- CHICAGO HOUSE DJ -- 2 DOGS -- HONEST & A MINIMAL LIAR -- DIG SINCERITY -- DESPISE THE PHONY -- DIG HUMOR -- DIG ANYTHING MAVERICK -- LOVE ME SOME 50'/60'S ROCK I heard mixes for the first time on a local Chicago radio station called 102.7fm WBMX circa 1981-1982. The djs I heard were members of The Hot Mix 5 (Scott, Mickey, Ralphi, Kenny and Farley) on the radio but my biggest influences were regular brothers right from my Logan Square/Humboldt Park neighborhood (Big ups to Dj Bruce Tankson, Dj Mark Catala, Dj Darius Flores, Dj Cukes, Dj Henry Rivera, Dj George Aquino to name a few...these guys are unknown to most but to me, they helped lay the foundation for my style and approach). But even before I ever heard any mixes, I was always into music. My parents were party animals so I heard alot of Disco, 50s, 60s, Rock, Funk, and R&B. Music was played at home all the time, especially on the weekends. After listening to how radio djs blended one song into another, I started manipulating whatever tape players and stereo turntables I had at the house to make my own mixes. The concept of synchronizing beats came 2nd nature to me, I always knew that you had to match your beats. The first time I saw a pair of Technics 1200s was at an 8th grade dance in 1983 at St. Sylvester's School in Logan Square. I wouldn't get my first pair of "12s" until 1987.
I started off with a pair of Technics SL 100s SL-B100 FG Servo Belt-Drive Manual Turntables that I picked up from a friend for $100. My mother couldn't afford it but she was able to scrape up the cash for those tables. With a borrowed Realistic 32-1200B Mixer from a friend, I was on his way.....to what? Who the hell knows but I was having fun. I was not known as Cratebug back then. I was known to my friends and in some dj circles as Devestatin' Dave. For what I was doing back in '84 and '85 it WAS pretty impressive, the scratching, the beat-juggling, the body tricks and song selection. In retrospect you can say I was ahead of many (at least in my neighborhood) when it came to on-deck technical skills. Of course today my skills seem somewhat tame and outdated in comparison to what djs are doing today...it's a whole other level now. If there was one fault that I can be accused of back then, it would have to be my almost total disregard or lack of drive to be a "club" dj or get my name attached to as many flyers or events as possible like many of his peers were doing. Back then I was more into the more intimate "house" parties that sprung up every weekend in the Logan Square/Humboldt Park areas. That was enough to keep him happy.
What I'm doing now: Playing live here and there. Just started doing the remixing and producing stuff THIS year (On 1.1.2009 to be exact). So far I've come up with only some remix work as I am still getting familiar with what I use (Ableton Live 7 -- It was a Xmas gift from my wife in 2008). It's theONLY software I have ever used to do anything with music. Think I'll start creating my own songs in a few months or so....we'll see what happens. STAY TUNED! 8^)
I'm here to make friends, meet new people, invite you to events, share good vibes and FREE music. GOOD music.

well - a friend of mine who sends me sites thru stumbleupon sent the youtube link for the zombies remix and I saw the link to your page of mixes from there
Hey you, how are you?? How's the wifey? I hope things are well. Thanks so much for the invite. They both look great and I could definitely use a night out. I have a wedding the weekend of the 31st so I may not be able to make that one, but possibly the one on July 4. Well I hope everything is great. Cuidate mucho!
Sweet words are easy to say, Sweet things are easy 2 buy, But sweet people are difficult to find. Life ends when U stop dreaming. Hope ends when U stop believing. Love ends when U stop caring. Friendship ends when U stop sharing. So share this with whom ever U consider a friend. To love without condition. To talk without intention. To give without reason. And to care without expectation is the heart of a true friend... Forward this to all the people whom U consider as your true friend. Dont forget to send it back to ME ..... If U Care........ Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile. Send to all the people you love or don't want to lose in 2009, even me.... If you get 3 back, you are a great friend
