...DJ Dalia plays a mashup of funk, soul, hip hop, r&b, house, reggae, retro, pop, nu jazz, bmore, baile funk, electro, broken beat and future boogie- basically whatever's good! Although she plays music from all over the map she is a self proclaimed classic hip hop junkie! She grew up in the golden era and still plays tribute to that time every month at the classic hip hop night Never Forgive Action. Her love of music, especially hip hop, led her to CHRY 105.5fm where she hosted and played on the infamous Best Kept Secret radio show. Today she is the official DJ for Shebang! all female breakers and hosts and dj's at 3 regular monthly parties in Toronto: Never Forgive Action, Hip Hop Karaoke and Where's D'Angelo, as well as random nights around the city. She also wrote the hip hop column, On The Downlow in Tribe magazine back in the 90s for over 5 years. Nowadays, she writes freelance for record labels and Exclaim! Magazine. Watch out this b-girl can also bust a move!
Best Kept Secret was the brainchild of Venus (aka Tashish) and Dalia, and was on the airwaves for over 12 years. The show was named after "Best Kept Secret" by Diamond D, and it was a bit of a best kept secret as the gals were one of the few shows featuring females mixing hip hop and breaks. Over the years the program moved into different time slots and directions, with Venus/Tashish heading to Montreal and Andrew Masuda taking over DJ'ing and co-hosting. The show was a mash of hip hop, funk, soul, beats, breaks, indie rock, house, broken beat, reggae, nu jazz and everything in between. Also featured on the show were interviews with local and international artists, and guest DJ's. On Wednesday July 19th, 2006, Andrew, Dalia and Tashish came back together with local artists/DJ's, friends and fam to air the final broadcast of the Best Kept Secret. Next phase y'all! Next phase!

Join us this Thursday, January 3rd for a very special edition of ROCKIT! featuring DJ AL BUNDY...
Al Bundy aka Aysiks (Goodfoot), down since the beginning, co-hosting the radio show and rapping about his sneaker fetishes. He never emailed us a blurb so we get to clown him! His Myspace Interests show a steady diet of vegan food, Figi water and a strong dislike for sugar-added beverages, so if you're gonna buy him a drink, make it a "double Baileys" or an "Aberfoyle Springs". Dilla, Marvin Gaye, The Beatles? Very original. Hopefully we'll hear more UGK, Devin & Cutty Ranks! His favourite movie is Princess Bride, which explains why he grew a mustache like Cary Elwes!

Just added on the boombox is a new 7O minute mix of funky soul 45s! Hear Etta James cover Cher, the original to Nina Simone’s Sea Line Woman that everyone forgot about, a soulful take on a CCR classic, and the original that put Biz Markie on the map. Plus so much more. Check out my profile for the full playlist and listen in. Make sure to visit the Parkdale Funk website and add the mix to your itunes.
