I got the name DAN SKI back in 1984, when breakdancing and grafitti culture hit the suburbs via Beat Street. Everyone that was in a "crew" had a "breakin" name, and mine just happened to become DAN SKI. It stuck with me through high school as my grafitti name (yeah, we we so hood ... lol) and by the time I started DJing in 1988, I just kept the name.
Now ... onto the DJ stuff.
My musical tastes/selections incorporate a little of everything.
My father raised me on generous helpings of classic and southern rock. Being born in the early 70's, I grew up in the 80's - and just like most children of the 80's - MTV opened my eyes to genres of music that I probably would have missed by just listening to the local Top 40 station.
On my earliest mixtapes, hip hop, "breakdancing music"/electro, new wave, and the dance music of the 80's could all be found mixing and mingling together very much like the different social groups that I hung out with in high school
However, what I came to be known best for in the 80's and 90's were my FREESTYLE mixes and mixtapes.
The clubs that I played at throughout the 90's were all Top 40 clubs, and my playlists were heavy with freestyle, house, radio friendly techno, Miami bass, and a dusting of hip hop.
If you were clubbing in those days, you would have heard me at:Taylors/Iguana, Sanctuary, Milkbar, Images, Metropolis, Planet Cherry Hill, Excalibur, Pandemonium, The Diamond Lounge, Nikki's, and The Coral Reef.
After taking a layoff from the industry, I returned to the clubs and nightspots in 2005 and picked up where I left off.
Currently, I play a fair share of "old school" type nights and concerts -- which are my roots and my soul ...
But I really enjoy playing in spots with a "ready to party" crowd where I can call upon all of my musical influences and play a fun mix of Top 40, party tunes, classic rock, and new wave ... all mixed and mashed up reallll nice.
The clubs/nightspots you might have heard me at recently are:
theRidge (Atlantic City) Bikini Beach Bar (A.C.) Blue Martini (Atlantic City) Deja Vu (Atlantic City) Shampoo Woodbine/Savoy Club 27 Kitchenbar Luna (Wildwood) A Lounge Fireside The ROC/Roosevelt's Posh
Everything that you need to know about me as a DJ is on here, or on my website www.djdanski.com
When I am DJing, I like to cross genres and play a fun party mix of music (Top 40, 80's/90's, party rock, etc) ... all the while keeping the energy up and the dancefloor moving!
Just finished a great summer season at Bally's Bikini Beach Bar, and looking forward to working in a few new places in Philly this fall/winter (in addition to my usual suburban spots).
I'll be adding video mixing to the show in October/November 2009. Nice!
When I am not working on music or DJing, I do like to go out/hang out at the local clubs/bars ... ahhhh, who am I kidding ... I work too much. I don't have alot of time to go out, but when I do it's with good friends and generally isn't in knobby joints.
I wear a few other hats too. I manage dance artist Jonelle. I also produce/remix for other artists, as well as make my own remixes to use during my DJ sets.
