In a short amount of time, DJ DAN SUH has already begun to leave his mark on the DJ world at large. Beginning his career in the music world behind the scenes as a tour manager for acts such as CIARA and FALL OUT BOY, he explains his motive for getting behind the turntables. “I’ve always loved all genres of music but I was beginning to lose the passion after being surrounded by music almost 24 hours a day on tour. When I got behind the decks for the first time and started touching and mixing records, all that passion started flooding back. DJ’ing as a career was never a consideration for me at first. I was strictly in hobby-land”.
SUH was a quick study and before too long, he was able to parlay his newfound passion into high profile DJ appearances. Now a ‘former’ tour manager and full time DJ. SUH maintains a friendship with Fall Out Boy’s WENTZ to this day. In fact, SUH was the DJ at WENTZ’s highly publicized wedding to ASHLEE SIMPSON. Affectionately nicknamed “the Korean TOM CRUISE,” SUH has gone on to develop a steady following as a DJ amongst California’s young jet-set crowd, scoring a DJ residencies at RANDE GERBER’s Moonstone at The Hard Rock Café in San Diego and Stone Rose in Hollywood. Besides having deejayed memorable events including: Rolling Stone’s 25th anniversary bash at the Hard Rock Café in New York; national TV (with the rapper, TYGA) on “JIMMY KIMMEL Live” in L.A.; a White House Correspondents’ dinner (hosted by CRAIG FERGUSON) in Washington DC, and a number of other celebrity events including a spirited set at NIKE’s 10K “Human Race” at Soldier Field in Chicago, part of NIKE’s single largest promotional event in company history.
Recently, DJ DAN SUH has upped the ante by becoming a permanent fixture on MTV’s music video show ‘FNMTV Premieres’ as an on air DJ. In addition, SUH was handpicked to DJ at several Inaugural Ball events in Washington DC. “Being in DC during the Inauguration and playing my own small part of history was the singular most exciting event of my life!”
SUH is an open-format DJ. His current gear setup consists of two Technics 1200 vinyl turntables, Serato Scratch LIVE and either the Pioneer DJM-909 or Rane TTM-SL mixer. His considers DJs such as AFRIKA BAMBAATAA, CUT CHEMIST, DJ SHADOW, DJ KLEVER, DJ CRAZE to be major influences but cites DR. DRE as his musical hero. SUH said, “As far as musicians and producers go, Dr. Dre is the king to me. He’s so meticulous, and everything sounds a certain way for a reason.” SUH’s goal as a party DJ is simple: “I want to give people a good time. Whether they’re listening to NWA or some obscure DAFT PUNK remix doesn’t matter. I end up juggling a lot of different formats when I DJ. It’s the most satisfying feeling in the world being able to give people a good time.”
