DJ JEFF BASS
Jeferson Santos, age 32, Brazilian, born in the city of Curitiba, began his musical career in the 1990’s, and as most DJs, began playing in neighborhood parties.
He was already getting attention for his first presentations because of the vast repertoire, with many rap classics, soul, funk and old-school electro which got him many invitations to b-boy’s events.
With the passing time and the bettering of his technique, Jeferson became known as DJ Jeff Bass (name allusive to his liking of the low timber beats) and besides becoming one of the favorite DJs of the street dancers, he decided to innovate by incorporating music of Brazilian origin into his sets.
This new characteristic had Jeff invited to an “audition” in one of the most famous underground clubs in the city at the time: Birinites.
On that Saturday night (in May of 2001), all surrendered to the unlikely musical mixture and the technique of the DJ that then became one of the club’s residents.
In that same year, Jeff was hired by the band “Turbo Funk”, with which he had the opportunity to play in large scale events and also the group’s short tours. With the end of the partnership, that lasted a few moths, the DJ was invited to be a part of the band ‘Capitão Sete’ and during this time was becoming more recognized and required on the city’s night scene.
In 2003, with the explosion of hip hop in Brazil, Jeff Bass aroused the interest of many renowned clubs in the country and was hired as one of the residents for one of the most popular weekly nights in Curitiba held every Tuesday at the John Bull Pub.
It wasn’t long before the DJ began his first tours throughout Brazil, playing in many of the most important Brazilian capitals.
In the two years following (2004 and 2005) he was elected the best hip hop DJ in the state and was cited by many specialized media vehicles as one of the best in the country.
In 2005 he participated in the sound track of the documentary “Sobbreviver” (about body boarding) in partnership with the band ‘Real Coletivo Dub’ and with the success of the single they recorded, the DJ started accompanying the band in many of their concerts.
In 2006. Jeff dedicated himself exclusively to his personal projects; he obtained great success with the main one, a party called “Bum Clap!”, where he performed next to many of the most important names in the national music scene.
In 2007 he participated in the band ‘Real Coletivo Dub’s first CD that was produced by Xandão Menezes (from the band ‘O Rappa’) and also recorded with the bands and artists ‘Capitão Sete’, Madu, and MC Magu; besides this he participated in the project “Soul Black Cia Groove” and did his first international tour (European), playing in Belgium and Italy.
In 2008, in partnership with DJ Anaum, he began the project “Cambalacho” (weekly on Sundays at Soho Underground) and also returned to Europe where he played in Germany, Belgium, France and England and upon returning to Brazil he competed in the finals of the national DMC (DJs Mixing Competition) between the 12 best Hip-Hop DJs in his country.
Currently, DJ Jeff Bass is considered one of the best Black music DJs in Brazil thanks to his energy, charisma and his unique combination of style and technique.
Jeff played alongside artists like: Black Alien, B. Negão, Speed Freaks, DJ KL Jay (Racionais MCs), DJ Primo, DJ Hum, XIS, MC Marechal, DJ Zegon, DJ Nuts, Claudio Zoli, among others.
He opened concerts for the groups and artists: Funk Como Le Gusta, Seu Jorge, Marcelo D2, Max de Castro, Paula Lima, Nação Zumbi, Mundo Livre S.A., Racionais MCs, Thaíde, Bossacucanova, Monobloco, among others.
