If you don't know me, I am Franz or Danny, whichever you prefer, this is just a short few paragraphs about how I came about being a DJ.
I grew up in the Ghetto of Wandsworth London but later moved out of Wandsworth into Hurst Green. Not knowing many people, i spent a lot of time by myself at home which is where i developed a taste of music. Influenced by my mother, I started listening to house and trance on a small portable stereo. I would spend hours listening to other DJ's mixes on cd's such as ministry of sound and Cream.
A couple years later, I upgraded to a 700watt system with big floor standing speakers. I would play tunes all day. And then eventally, i started tinking about blending tunes together and creating seamless mixes. I became frustrated that a standard stereo was not capable of doing this.
In the year 2000, when i was only eleven years old, I gained my first CD Decks. It was on these decks that I spent many frustrating hours trying to understand the concept of Mixing. Within about 2 months, I had mastered the smooth mix, but still, the skill was a bit scrappy and required a lot more practice.
After another year perfecting the technique of mixing, we visited the island of cyprus, where we stayed in a large hotel. One night, the hotel was hosting a disco and so I decided to go and showcase my talent. The audience consisted of about only 30 people, but that didn't matter as in the audience, there was the manager of the Rainbow Club. This is where I was asked if I wanted to perform a set in the club next year. . . . .
A year later, at the age of 13, and only two years experience of DJing, i arrived on the island of cyprus with a big old box of vinyl (which the w**kers at baggage handling had deliberately thrown about after seeing the "Fragile" Sticker) I spent a few days thinkin about the style of music to play, what set to play and how to play it. And then the big night came. . . .
The first time I stepped up to the decks, I felt that I might be a bit nervous, but once I was up there, the adrenaline kicked in and the fear slipped away. Mixing up house music on my first night advised by DJ Apache, the set went down a storm, receiving several compliments, I was then invited back to play on the next night.
Second time I stepped up to the decks, no nerves at all. The set started well, but half way through the set, I changed the style. Moving from house into trance and Hard House, the set did not go down very well. I left the club in disappointment. It was then that the style I was playing totally changed.
Two years later, on the island, i started to get to know people. I came about DJing in a small bar called Tequilas. This is where I started to hone in on my skills. I learned the important skill of being able to please a crowd (and DJing whilst drunk). By this time I had completely changed my style from house and trance to UK Garage which is what I am playing now.
A year later, I visited the island for 8 weeks in the summer. It was here that I got to Know DJ Tonic, who presents the world wide radio show of Point FM. I was invited to play a set on the Radio which proved to be very succesful. After playing a two hour set, I received so much positive feedback from listeners that I was asked to present the show every friday night. I did this for the the 8 weeks, presenting seven shows in total.
In the same year, I went back to the Rainbow club to showcase my new UK Garage style. After playing on radio and in other bars, i was totally relaxed and at home. Feedback was even more positive this time with comments such as "Its nice to hear some garage for once, all they play here is R&B" This then resulted in me being invited back to play a set any time that I wanted. After getting to know a lot more people (and club managers) i was invited to play in other clubs such as "woodyz" and "bubbles" I decided not to play these sets this year, but to save it till next year when i go back in the summer. So when i go back, i've got these resedencies alongside a daily radio show on Point FM.
