funkosis has messed about with music since childhood putting together mixed tapes for mates and avidly watching the music charts for the latest releases. But it was not until 2002 that he started working the decks in public venues.
while living in Sydney, funkosis immersed himself in the vibrant club scene and enjoyed a couple of short stints in small lounge venues, as well as playing private gigs up and down the east coast.
funkosis has recently been living in far north Queensland with residencies at Shennanigan's Hotel and Casa de Meze. Before this he lived in Australia's south west and has been a resident dj at Altitudes Lounge Bar mixing it up with The HouseJunkie and other guests. As well as this, funkosis was a regular dj at Geisha Bar in Perth and has also performed live on RTRFM with Deviance.
there's never a dull moment with funkosis on the decks as he mixes up a vast array of tracks including motown, funk & soul classics, 70s disco, 80s retro, funky house, deep tech house, electro & breaks while dancing and bouncing about to the beats he enjoys.
funkosis as producer
funkosis is new to the field of electronic music production with his first tracks being developed in mid 2005. His catalogue has over 50 tracks, but only a few have been released commercially. If you want to hear some of the unreleased tracks follow the funkosis link to GroundZero Project.
funkosis released 3 tracks on the Triple J Unearthed website in February 2008, all of which made it into the Electronic Music Top Ten Charts for unsigned artists Australia wide.
"Castles In The Sky" was featured on the Unearthed home page and climbed to number 2 nationally on the electronic music charts. "After Sex" also did well peaking at number 4 and "Vital Stats" peaked in 8th place.
there's no doubt that it's a difficult task to define the style of funkosis, with influences absorbed from a vast array of diverse music styles and genres.
the beat is critical, mostly bangin' and always laced with a multitude of weird wonderful instrumentals and edgy sketchy fx and samples.
