!!!!! NEWSFLASH !!!!!! DJ scoops the 2009 Canberra Blues Society Blues Awards!!!!
WINNER: Female Blues Vocalist
DJ and Christo - Blues Album of the Year
DJ and L Gosper - Original Blues Song 'Baby Rose'.
DJ Gosper has been singing the blues after she fell helplessly in love with the Harmonica. She has since developed a reputation as one of the tastiest blues-harp players in Australia.
After spending 2007 to 2008 recovering from breast cancer, DJ is “performing with a passion that knows no tomorrow.” (Bill Arnett, the Folkus Room, Canberra).
Raised in a musical family with sing-a-longs being a regular occurrence, DJ had piano lessons for many years and was heavily influenced by the blues and bluegrass records that were played in the family home. Her parents, concerned with her obvious passion for music, encouraged her to ‘get a real job’ to fall back on. So, like many musicians, DJ did just that and trained as a secretary which kept her in food and comfort until she recently decided that music spoke to heart and there was more to life than just surviving.
Her professional musical career began in 1995 fronting The Dynamic Lifters as singer, keyboard and harmonica player. This band exposed DJ to a range of music, from original songs to obscure folk songs to pub-rock and blues-rock covers and helped her to begin her journey toward finding her own sound.
As member of renowned vocal trio The Blues Cowgirls from 2002 – 2005, DJ played at various Australian blues and folk festivals. The independent release of ‘Ask Any Woman’ was awarded "Best CD of the Year" by Canberra Roots Music.
She formed the KarismaKatz in 2004 and co-wrote and co-produced her second CD “Spirit on the Rise” described by Phil Birch-Marston of Artsound FM as: “… something special, superb performances, lyrically powerful and thought provoking, a strong message of getting on with life through adversity. The spirit and adaptability of love shine through beautifully.”
In November 2007 DJ scooped the Canberra Blues Society Awards winning three of the six music categories: "Best Vocalist", "Best Instrumentalist" and "Best Song" (Burn Baby Burn, co-written with ‘Katz guitarist, Christo Carlsen).
DJ has shared the stage with some of Australia’s great blues performers including Kate Meehan, Phil Manning, Fiona Boyes, Dutch Tilders, Jan Preston, Damon Davies and the USA’s Eugene Hideaway-Bridges.
DJ’s third CD, Hot Flush Blues is her first solo album. The CD is true DJ style, one she has made her own. It walks a fine line between rock, swing, jazz and traditional blues.
The CD was released in June 2009 and debuted at the Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival 28-31 May, 2009.
"DJ Gosper is a fine singer, a fine songwriter and a fine harmonica player. All these talents combine beautifully to create 'Hot Flush Blues' - a very fine CD from this remarkably talented woman".
Jim Conway, 2009
"DJ has a fine, rich, powerful voice and also plays a mean Blues harmonica. Her live performances are full of energy and natural, open-hearted emotion."
Artsound FM
“Since her return to the stage, breast cancer survivor, DJ Gosper, performs with a passion that knows no tomorrow”
Bill Arnett, The Folkus Room 2008
"DJ Gosper showed us that as well as being a great blues singer, she is one of the hottest harp players around…"
Dom Melano, Canberra Blues Society 2007
"DJ is one of Australia's best harmonica players and she has the voice of a blues diva."
Guy Gibson, The Merry Muse 2007
“DJ's harp playing is a monument to style, tone and good taste.”
Ernie Van Veen 2006
“I really enjoyed making music with you girl - You've got a great style.”
Fiona Boyes 2005
“...very solid harp playing”
Damian Coen 2004
“Girl, you play a mean harp!”
Eugene Hideaway Bridges 2005

Sunday 4th October, The Woohoo Revue (Melb), The FRONT GALLERY, 7:30-11pm, $15, genre: Gypsy-Rock.
Melbourne gypsy band, The Woohoo Revue is touring NSW and will be putting on a gypsy rock spectacle at The Front Gallery on Sun 4th October.
People lucky enough to have seen the band’s previous A.C.T. shows will know that this will be a fantastic performance. Expect a big, brassy and outrageously tight set. The Woohoo Revue play music for celebration- for drinking, dancing and forgetting about tomorrow. This is a band that has been seemingly transported from inside a big top. Whilst no dancing bears feature in the show, the group dresses sharp and the playing is even sharper.
