V/A - Minor Cutz and Scrapes [*Cutz Recordings, 2009] Gyle - Foreplay
PROFILE / HISTORY
Steven Albert (Gyle) was born in New Britain, CT in November of 1984 and began his adventure in music at a young age. Picking up skills in drums and percussion from his father at an early age gave Gyle an edge in discovering rhythm and groove.
Performing in a few punk/metal and industrial band-projects during his teenage years eventually lead to the discovery of house and techno music in 1998 when he flipped on the radio to a local college station during one summer afternoon. The man behind this particular show was DJ Kered. The two later became acquainted in 2000 where Kered took Gyle under his wing to show him the ropes of being a disk-jockey.
During this time, Gyle was also beginning an early foundation in original track production using video software.
With the music in mind and the drive to learn new skills, Gyle was introduced to Anton Banks who suggested to start a radio program. In November 2000, Gyle began buying records and hosted Flash Fusion Radio at 107.7 FM WFCS weekly. The show later expanded to another college station, 89.3 FM WRTC and shifted into Transnet Radio.
Around 2002, Gyle began emerging himself with local promoters and started hosting a series of events at the legendary Municipal Cafe in Hartford, CT which continued until 2005. Beyond CT, Gyle has also performed numerous events in MA, NY, and RI, establishing connectivity with the music scene.
In April 2006, Transnet Radio officially went off college radio air-waves to renew a focus in music production. In 2008, Gyle released tracks with labels working with Beatport.com. The following year he re-launched Transnet Radio through DjsInTheMix.net which focuses on a two-hour live dj mix.
Gyle never limits himself to one particular style of music. Categorically the flavors he works with is primarily underground Techno, House, and Electro, but always has an abundance of varying styles in his record collection.
During the expansion of digital music and technology, Gyle has made a commitment to stick with vinyl records and acetate dubplates during his performances. Through growth and creative use of will he has also taken on a three-turntable technique in light of maximizing artistic potential and is usually found brainstorming new ideas in his studio at The Glen.
Passion is the number one drive for Gyle and is relentlessly motivated to push boundaries in his music sets. The atmosphere and vibe will determine which way he will swing whether it's getting a massive crowd to dance for hours or bringing a smaller audience through eclectic listenings of deeper shades of rhythm. Gyle always aims to please and never hesitates to take you to sounds of tomorrow.
