DJ Hektik is a dedicated DJ who has worked hard on his mixing skillz and DJ-sets. His selection ranges from rolling Neurofunk to percussive Techno-DNB and also hard hitting amen/reece rinseout stuff, precisely mixed in a tight mix-arrangement and spiced with creative turntable-/mixing-tricks. Besides striving for deejaying on high levels, he co-hosts the weekly Drum & Bass radio show "DMF" and maintains the labels "Tilt-Recordings" and "T-FREE".
More details:
DJ Hektik started mixing Techno in 1995 and fell in love with Drum & Bass in 1997. The next most significant influence was Bad Boy Kaiza's theory of consistent mixes, to DJ Hektik the logical next step to bring mixing technoid music to higher levels. After some years of experimenting with that idea, forming an own approach and combining it with double-drops, intros/breaks/outros and cut- & blend-mixing, DJ Hektik finally recognized the world of Turntablism in 2002 through the legendary "80s Megamix" mixtape by DJ Spinbad and was then heavily inspired by the video of Kid Koala's live performance in Moscow 2003. In the Science of turntablism, DJ Hektik discovered interesting techniques to extend his mixing skills: Manipulating and re-arranging beats live with cutting, strobing and juggling. With practising these and focussing on mixparts/routine-based selections, DJ Hektik's mixes and live performances both became way more versatile, combining semi-consistent selection with intro-/break-routines and mixing elements/ influences from Techno, Ragga, HipHop/Turntablism and of course Drum & Bass. Besides deejaying Drum & Bass, DJ Hektik organized Drum & Bass parties from 1999-2002 as a member of the Trio-Music crew, then started building and maintaining their websites. In 2003 he founded the label vinyl + digital "Tilt-Recordings" together with Bad Boy Kaiza and Budoka. Since then he has been running it, and also the sister label "T-FREE" (a free 320' mp3 netlabel for Techno-DNB and Neurofunk). He also co-hosts the weekly Drum & Bass radio show "DMF" since 2001 and organizes intimate bar- and club events in the Mannheim / Heidelberg area in Germany.
