I first started playing around making music in about 1987 using pro tracker
on the Commodore Amiga, I soon learnt my "making music from scratch skills" were
extremely lacking. I use to mix early electro as early as 1984 ( I was fourteen,
me and a friend use to use three tape decks, a mic and no mixer !!! it was
terrible) got my first decks in 1990, at that time I was a Student in Portsmouth
studying Film and Media studies although most of the time I was trying to get as
good as CJ Bolland, (Never happened) I have used CD mixers but never got on with
them, went digital 6 years ago, haven't looked back.
What got me into (mixing/making music)?
Initially just a natural fascination and the fact that I could never play a
real instrument, later in my early adult years it would probably have a lot to
do with the copious ammount of drugs I was throwing in almost every orifice.
Tools used for (mixing/making music)?
My home setup is a kick arse PC using various software including Mixmeister
Fusion, Adobe Audition, Ableton live, Vst's & Directx plugins. These tools are
used to get a base mix down. When I manage to get gigs, my live setup is done on
a laptop, running ableton controlled by a midi controller playing a base mix I
did earlier Wink, my live stuff is all about playing with effects overlaying
samples, eq'ing and sound quality etc etc, although these days I'm happier going
to events rather than playing them. (I'm getting on)
(Artists/DJs) that have influenced my (mixing style/musical style)?
Really too many to mention, I've been into electronica now for 20 years.
Where do I start ? Early days would be Bambaata, Soul Sonic Force moving onto
Stuff like Slipmat, Prodigy moving onto the Orb, Orbital, early Darren Emerson,
then going into the trance scene which initially started out very psychedelic in
the early nineties until it turned into full blown cheese after it got too
commercial. I mulled these years over until the likes of leftfield and
underworld started kickin butt and then at last psytrance was re-invented in the
late 90's and has continued to re-invent itself, that is my true passion today.
Here's a few of my mixes to check out, it can stream a bit slow at times, patience is a virtue, also they are low quality streams. If you really like one drop me a line and I'll give you details how to get a high quality version from yours truly. HINT stop the other track on the left before you play those below ;)
