I make music -- aural collages -- using samples. These samples come from every source of recorded sound available to me, be it music, voice, film, or simple exhalations.
As a dj, as a producer, as a musician, and as an artist, I look to synthesize the sound about me; to make one the many disparate vibrations and movements within ourselves and our environment. The synthesis of these elements is both a literal and symbolic expression of not only the emotions I feel, but an attempt to create a universal transmission of feeling across listeners.
Sometimes I want to move the listener.
Other times, I just want the listener to move.
I am DJ Inbetween, and my philosophy is to act as the tool between the world of sound around us and the emotions that those sounds communicate. I work to refine, to combine, and articulate, and attempt to use the angle and position of my constructions to affect a change in the listener, even if that changes manifests as simply as the nodding of a head to a beat.
