.. .. JESSE DE LA PEÑA, a DJ synonymous with Chicago's Club scene, is constantly pushing the boundaries of dance music, challenging his audience’s expectations, taking them on a musical journey and changing the idea of what a DJ’s role should be. Spinning records since 1985, JESSE’s roots can be traced to the B-boy culture of Chicago's Southwest side in the mid-80’s… involved in the break-dancing and graffiti movements, Jesse help lay the foundation for Chicago’s vibrant hip-hop scene today... .. Not only does he create a mood or atmosphere, he’s known for his ability to seamlessly bridge different genres of music. Fusing: jazz, funk, soul, reggae, hip-hop, rock, latin, 70’s, 80's and classics dance music in to a unique style all his own. .. .. While working at Smart Bar, JESSE began experimenting with various Chicago musicians. These jam sessions grew into the formation of the Grammy nominated Liquid Soul, a ten-piece, acid jazz ensemble co founded by Jesse and guitarist Tommy Kline. The group enjoyed success both locally in Chicago and at the national level. Liquid Soul was invited to play the inaugural parade and 21st Century Ball during the 53rd Presidential Inauguration. JESSE is currently recording his new project “Trio De La Pena” due out mid 2008. JESSE has been nominated "Best Club DJ" by various Chicago publications such as: The Chicago Sun Times, Chicago Tribune, New City, UR Chicago, Reader and City search. Through Giant Step and the Groove Academy in New York, JESSE has appeared at New York Clubs: Irving Plaza, S.O.B., Tramps, Wetlands, Nell's, Supper Club, Shelter and various parties along with N.Y. favorites: DJ Spinna, Jazzy Nice, DJ Smash, Bobitto, Rich Medina & Language. .. .. Also featured in TV commercials and print ads for: McDonald’s (Mc Wake Up Call), Mid West Stereo, Sure Microphone, Gemini Mixers and the Illinois Lottery’s "Player have more fun" campaign. .. .. ..
