Joe Pearson aka JoeP aka dj Joe Peezy was born and raised in New Orleans (Slidell), La. He moved to the windy city of Chicago at the age of 12. While attending Foreman HS, on the north side, he was influenced by the many people in the music scene. He watched DJs spin house parties, breakers take main stage and MCs rock the mic, all the while soaking up what he saw, to enter into that realm. After graduating high school in 1994, he bought his first pair of turntables, from there he began to develop his style... House parties from the north side to the south side, was his specialty. Ozzie V from Devastating Soundz noticed Joe Peezy, appreciating his style to move the dance floor with an arsenal of music, they gave him a chance to grow and perfect his skill. Devastating Soundz hosted parties throughout Chicago and the Suburbs, contracting DJ’s from Too Kool Chris to Notorious Nino. Continuing to work with Devastating Soundz, Joe Peezy frequented the record shops – Hip House, Grammaphone and Just Dance, meeting and hangin’ with other DJ’s – Alex Peace – Halo – Jammin Joe P – Hyperactive – JJ Jellybean – Justin Long – Dazzlin’ Johnny Boy, to name a few. While networking with some of the better DJ’s, Joe Peezy met Johnny Price, at the time, resident DJ of the Beaumont Bar & Grill. To some it was just a Lincoln Park bar, but to others it was a place to improve their Djing skills. While Johnny Price was touring, Joe Peezy covered for him at the Beaumont, gaining more knowledge of the music and people. Johnny Price introduced Joe Peezy to managers, promoters and other DJ’s in the industry, such as DJ Prince Masih & DJ Stixx, leading him in the right direction. In doing so, Joe Peezy landed resident spots at Hamilton’s Sports Bar, a popular college bar on the north side of Chicago, located in the heart of Loyola University on Thursday’s and Slugger’s, located in Wrigleyville on Friday’s. While once again, meeting more and more people within the industry.
One late Thursday night at Hamilton’s in 1998, a DJ by the name of Mouse entered the booth. He was throwing parties throughout the city and wanted Joe Peezy on the line-up. With the help of Mouse, Joe Peezy was spinning at Elixir, Stardust, Club Mint, Club XL and the Dragon Room. On the same bill were Double Impact – DJ Gus – Jumpin Jack – Sophisticated. This introduced Joe Peezy to a different environment – different people – different music. This also opened new doors with many new people behind those doors. Such as Bruce from Dance All Night! , a mobile DJ company located in Deerfield. They wanted to add a young hot DJ to their roster and Joe Peezy was the candidate. This helped in creating a large library of music, from Dance to Disco to Rock to Reggae. Joe Peezy then became very busy with the resident & guest spots as well as, Djing for Dance All Night!
2001 - a new year with new things ahead. Joe Peezy began Djing at The Hunt Club, a sports bar by day – a dance club by night, located on the Gold Coast. Joe Peezy was holding down Friday nights, spinning his unique blend of music, from Progressive to Pop to Hip-Hop to House. While at The Hunt Club, KISS 103.5 would occasionally host Friday nights and Joe Peezy would DJ the evening. His stay at The Hunt Club lasted until the summer, when he began working at Shure, Inc. He felt it was time to put his degree in electronics from DeVry University to good use. While employed for Shure, Inc., the leading manufacturer of microphones worldwide, he continued to network locally and globally.
By way of Shure, Inc., Joe Peezy met Ruben from The Spot 1 Entertainment and Tony D from N.V. Productions and Nueva Vida Studios. The Spot 1 hosted events throughout Chicago at various locations, displaying the best urban talent in the area. Alongside Joe Peezy, was DJ Buttaphingas, together they orchestrated the decks while the rawest performers took main stage.
2004 - Joe Peezy was back. Spinning parties at Pasha and reserve. All floors, all levels, this DJ was doing his thang. Joe Peezy held residency at Pasha on Saturday night's (04-06). Spinning a unique blend of global underground trance mixed with his style of cutting edge urban dance. Pasha was the place to be!
2009 - Joe Peezy is in Da MIX?
Joe Peezy is much more than a DJ for Piehouse he is also the man who has the plan, he provides inspiration and drive to make Piehouse more incredible tomorrow than what it is today. He has been spinning records since '94 and has never given up or quit improving, every year he seems to get better and gather more influences. His dream is to one day set the world on fire with a perfect set and be known as the party starter. To Joey DJing is not just about music, it is about the feeling one can have while listening to it.
