Jonay started his DJ career back in 1992 playing at the "KU" club in Santa Cruz de Tenerife when he
was only 12 years old. In 1993, he played at his first rave as a support DJ in one of the first
events of this kind ever in Tenerife, playing in front of a pleased audience of more than 500
people. When they noticed how young he was and his smooth DJ skills people were absolutely shocked
and his name was soon established as one of the foundations of the Tenerife Hardcore scene.
His popularity was growing party after party and in 1994 he joined Universal Grooves FM, a very
well-known pirate radio station of the time where he broadcasted his first radio shows.
That summer, he got a residence in Playa de las Americas at the "Fever" discoteque, place where a
few years ago some famous british DJ'S such as Darren Jay, Alex Arnout or Perfect Combination had
already played among others.
Jonay's development as a DJ was astonishing and his name was always present at every rave you went
to.1997 was a key moment in his life as he was signed by Super 7 Radio to have his own radio show, a
radio station which belongs to a very well-known local TV station in Tenerife, Canal 7 del
Atlántico.At that time, his spectacular sessions were so popular that everyone tuned the radio to
listen what Jonay was playing, therefore, he became, without doubt, the most renowned DJ in the
island and, at that time, he started to show a growing interest about producing tunes.
In 2000, he produced his very first tunes that were released by 7 Records, perhaps the most popular
breakbeat label at the time. His fame was spread outside the islands and he soon
played in Seville, Valencia and Madrid, always being a crowd-pleaser whenever he played, even
appearing at the SONAR festival in Barcelona, thus, getting a massive positive feedback by both
audience and press.
In 2003, he released alongside his mate Little P. his first maxi called "Salsa", obtaining a score
4/5 in the DJ Magazine, a prestigious British magazine. After this success, Jonay moved to London
where he stayed for a year devoted to the world of production. Later on, he returns to Tenerife
where he is currently doing another radio show, Music Division, at Super 7 Radio once again where he
now plays the hottest drum and bass but also his beloved old skool hardcore and more dance styles,
as long as they're worth playing.
Now, he's also working with DJ Howtek, probably one of the best Drum & Bass DJ'S in Spain, producing tunes that will be released very soon (watch this space!) as well as promoting events both in Tenerife and the Mainland.
