Texture is a word that isn’t often used in relation to DJing- but when it comes to DJ Juice E’s personal style of spinning music, texture is the word that comes to mind. Listening to her set on any give night you might hear everything from Dance Classics, to Old School Hip Hop gems, 70s Latin, or even early 90s Dancehall. What makes it special when Juice E spins is the way she brings it all together- making it smooth when folks are dancing, and the flow is right; Or grinding it up just a bit to bring out the Boom Bap or edginess of a particular song.
With roots in NYC’s early 90s Indie Hip Hop scene, Juice E is well versed in a wide array of music, although she is admittedly most comfortable with her Classics. DJing since 19… she’s been fascinated with music since way back, always trying to create something that sounds good to her- either as and emcee (IsReal), Producer, Engineer, or as the voice behind the wheels. As a DJ, Juice E remains a dedicated crate digger, and her primary media of choice is still wax. What makes her such a great DJ is her intuitive ability to know just what record to pull out next to get the crowd in an uproar- a trait that too many DJs these days seem to lack.
Juice E has spun at numerous venues in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. She currently has several residencies at venues such as Tillman's, Habana Outpost, Barrette and Madame X, as well as several other bookings around town. She is also a regular guest at The Gathering in Philadelphia.
