In my earlier years it was DJs like Jelly Bean, Todd Terry, Junior Vasquez and MCs/Bands like Whodini, Grand Master Flash, Run DMC, Slick Rick. My brother, who was a DJ in Detroit, was a big factor in getting me behind turntables.
Sounds Like
Disco, rock, new wave, rap, hip-hop, alternative, house, trance, techno, chillout/electronica, reggae ... I listen, love and play all these styles of music.
I've been DJing for almost 20 years. I started off in the resort island of Cyprus where I would play beach parties during the tourist season when school was out. After moving to the US in 1991 to go to college, it's always been a balance b/w my professional career (the day job...) and my creative outlet (DJing), but I've managed to keep both going and have been lucky to play at some of the hottest venues including Industry (Detroit) and The Tunnel (NYC).
Currently, I am the resident Saturday Night DJ at Red Fez, Austin TX. A night with a diverse mix of hip-hop, dance, rock, and pop guaranteed to make you dance. Come by the VIP/DJ booth, say hi, but whatever you do, *don't* bump the DJ table!
I occasionally cover for my good friends at other bars, most notably Friday's at Six Lounge. I also DJ with one of the AWESOMEST mash-up/cover bands ever - I Need More Cowbell - it's the funniest show ever, and everyone has a blast and gets drunk Bitches!! Check them out at myspace/austincowbell.
Don't forget to checkout some of the awesome local ATX talent: I Need More Cowbell, Primm, Vehicular, MC Overlord, DJ Kurupt, DJ Ryan Miller, Chicken George, DJ Manny, DJ Jeff Jupiter, DJ In/Verse ... to name a few.
