DJ Luiz Pareto

Bio:

Rio born Luiz Pareto started his professional life in 1981 as an actor in his home city however it was in 1989, when he moved to São Paulo, that he got interested in electronic music. His carrier as a DJ started as a joke playing at a friend's house party in 1991. Now, after playing for 16 years, all that is left from his acting times in Rio is a fine collection of funny wigs that he wears during his gigs, changing them every time he changes the mood on the dance floor and/or the style of music. Luiz Pareto plays on his own parties, such as the recent 'Xarope' project, or the legendary 'Space Disco', 'Breakin' and 'Rebolado' (which earned him the prestigious 'Noite Ilustrada' award in 2000 for his unparalleled contribution to the consolidation of the São Paulo house scene). He also played on the 'Fucked!' and 'Farra!' projects with Marcos Morcerf, and at the most important clubs and parties of São Paulo's underground scene. From the old and legendary Latino and Hell's Club, to newer clubs such as Lov.e, A Lôca, Mood, Piranha and D-Edge, Pareto did it all. Actually, it's at D-Edge that Pareto shares the residency and direction of renowned 'Freak Chic' party with Marcos Morcerf and Renato Ratier. Freak Chic, a party that has been packing the club every friday since its launch in 2003, which in the same year earned the award (again by presitigious ‘ Noite Ilustrada’) of ‘best house night’ and subsequently earned Pareto his second ‘Noite Ilustrada’ award for ‘best house DJ’. It's also at 'Freak Chic' that he's had the opportunity to book and play along side top international DJs such as Mark Farina, Luke Solomon, Phil Weeks, Kenny Hawkes, James Curd (Greens Keepers), David Duriez, Diz Washington, DJ Heather, Jef K, Tony Senghore, Ivan Smagghe, Phonique, Superpitcher, Brett Johnson, Jesper Dahlback, DJ Kaos and Tiefschwarz amongst others. Apart from playing in São Paulo (at both the underground scene or mega clubs like B.a.s.e., U-Turn and Sirena), Pareto plays regularly all over Brazil in cities such as Rio De Janeiro (monthly resident), Campo Grande, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Salvador, Florianópolis, Cuiabá, Manaus and Curitiba amongst many others. He has been part of all the major festivals such as 'Skol Beats', 'Bavaria Vibe', 'Brasília Music Festival' and 'Festival de Verão' in Salvador and has participated in numerous institutional parties for companies such as Audi, Nokia, Sony/Ericsson, Motorola and Diesel, to name a few. In the past few years Pareto’s international career has taken off. He has played in places such as Batofar in Paris, Decadance in Gent, Pablo Discobar in Brussels, at the hyped Propaganda in Moscow, 'Art For Pleasure' in Malmo, Paradise Garage Afterhours in Lisbon, Club Joy in New York and AKA/The End in London. While in South America he has also played at Club La Feria in Santiago, Niceto's Club 69 in Buenos Aires and at Clubs UFO & Corona at Las Leñas Ski Resort in Argentina. Since year 2000, Luiz Pareto has been dedicating himself to his project of a electronic music record label, the 'Rebolado' (www.rebolado.com.br), which has also been the name of a big party produced by the DJ. Through his label, Pareto has been releasing his own productions signing as Coringa (moniker chosen by the DJ because it's the brazilian translation for the Joker playing card used for substituting all the other cards, and this way meaning his will to explore different aspects of the electronic spectrum). Some of the tracks released through Rebolado became video clips, like "Whatever" and "A Bateria da Minha Madrinha" which entered the programming of brazilian MTV, and other ones like "Jig" and "Electrify My Soul" were released on compilations in Brazil. Luiz Pareto has just released the third single on his label. The track "Preach" is already available in digital format at Juno Digital and it's soon expected to go to other stores. In a few months he'll be releasing the fourth release on the label with the track "A Fidelidade..." featuring vocals of brilliant brazilian singer Paula Lima. Luiz is now dedicating most of his time producing new tracks for his label. Music that is at the same time fun and intelligent, be it deeper or techier, four on the floor or break beat. The kind of music that would fit perfectly in his sets where he enjoys to drive people on a journey, going up and down to later bring them up again, and down and up, and so on... His DJ style used to be very eclectic in the beginning of his career, and although it had shrunk a little in terms of musical genres in the second half of the 90's (time of extreme segmentation of the Brazilian electronic music scene), it still maintained a certain variety, whilst remaining predominantly house music. With the beginning of the new decade, Pareto started expanding his eclecticism again, always trying to show people the latest tendencies of the underground dance floors of the planet, going through different forms of house (funky, click, new wave, minimal, deep, electro, techy, acid, disco, etc...), besides breakbeats, disco punk, digital dancehall and techno played in human bpm’s. His motto is to never loose the groove, the diversity and the sense of humour. The DJ, who loves to use his talent to create third tracks when mixing two others, blends all these ingredients in a most surprising way. Throughout the years, Luiz Pareto has gained a fine reputation in his country, not only for trying to educate people on the dancefloor but also for doing it in a pleasant way.
