About me:

Hey y'all. Luke here. Williams is my actual surname, Luke James is my DJ moniker. I live in Northcote on the sunny North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. Born in Colchester, England on 7th February 1977 to father Gary and mother (the beautiful but sadly departed) Gillian, raised in Papamoa/Mt Maunganui NZ before making Auckland home to do an Audio Engineering Diploma when I turned 20.

Growing up in Mt Maunganui, the only thing I ever remember being totally passionate about was music. Whether it was being glued to RTR countdown with my finger poised on the record button, doing my paper-run with my walkman blaring, taking piano lessons and later, the guitar, or thumbing through my parents vinyl collections - it was something I connected with and immersed myself in.

After leaving my childhood stomping ground and my nu-metal (before it was called nu-metal) band - Nosebleed, behind for the bright lights of Auckland and a diploma course at an audio engineering college, I fell into a job at Real Groovy Records – somewhat of a New Zealand icon. I've been working at Real Groovy Records since 1998 (yes I know, it's a bloody time). It was here, through working with a dynamic and very eclectic bunch of people who all shared the common bond of a strong passion for music and being introduced to the delights of the nightclubbing scene - that I discovered my new love for dance music. I particularly liked the techier side of house, but anything that had a decent beat, nice melody or a great hook. Pretty soon I became addicted to digging through the vinyl bins at work and started accumulating myself a decent sized collection. This hobby became my job in 2002 when I became the dance vinyl buyer for the store. In 2007 I took on the role of Store Manager of the Auckland branch which is the biggest music store in the country. Alot of responsibility but a good challenge. Made a lot of positive change to the place. I also ordered and took care of the dance music for the store was a pretty sweet job really. Workin' with what I love is great.

In late 2009 after 11 years at Real Groovy it was time for me to move on to a new challenge which came in the form of working as a Travel Consultant for Flight Centre. It was either going to be music or travel for me and as I want to see much more of the world working for Flight Centre was the next logical step. After 7 months in the job I was offered a job as the Manager of the Broadway branch in Newmarket which I accepted and am now working on making it a more successful machine. Wish me luck! Until last year I had worked in record stores since I was 15 years old when my old man owned Soundwaves @ The Mount. Not sure what else I'd do with myself really. Other than DJ of course which I also love and do on a regular basis. I have run and DJ'ed at my own club nights over the last few years - "Got The Beats" which held a residency at The Supermarket on Saturday nights, "Mixed Up" @ Purple Bar and "The End Up" Sunday nights @ Tonic. I have also played many other clubs and dance parties about Auckland. Occasionally I guest DJ on George FM, NZ's premier dance radio station.

My music policy is along the chunky variety or anything that grabs me with a good melody or a deep and dirty, warm vibe - tech house, non-cheesey electro, breaks and other solid beatings!!! I’m always open to playing at new places and parties. I love to get the dance floor rockin’. It’s where I thrive.

I'm a pretty positive, laidback kind of a guy that enjoys chilling out as much as I do hanging out with my mates having a laugh or going out getting completely caned! It's all about the balance people! Life's a blast. Live it to the fullest aye! Peace out
