Raised in the McKinley park and Back of the yards neighborhoods in the Southside of Chicago during the 80s and 90s House music was a big influence amongst the youth, Jorge Ortega aka DJ Maddjazz started his DJ career in 1996 at the age of 14 when his older cousin introduced him to not only the art form but the rave / party scene as well. By 1997 he watched a DMC video which greatly influenced him to dabble with scratching and Turntablism. Maddjazz began incorporating these skills into his DJ sets and within a matter of months he began to gain recognition amongst his peers. At first he started off by DeeJaying at house/basement parties and mobile gigs but by 18 years old he was already opening up for big name DJs at raves, loft parties and clubs. In the summer of 2000 Maddjazz began competing in DJ battles where he became a fierce competitor, placing or winning in many battles across the mid-west. He also proved to be consistent by placing 3rd three years in a row at the 2004, 2005 & 2006 DMC Chicago heats. During this time Maddjazz also began producing Hip Hop beats for various Artists in Chicago where he also got the opportunity to travel, play big shows and festivals as a stage DJ. By 2007 he decided to go back to his roots by focusing on Dance Music production. In 2008 Maddjazz along with Charlie Glitch, Rampage & Rob Threezy formed the DJ/production crew knows as Ghetto Division and bursted into the Chicago electronic dance music scene by storm with their signature sound. This caught the attention of New Jersey / Philadelphia based Brick Bandits and they formed an alliance. Together Ghetto Division released an E.P. on the 2 Hype Records label in February 2009 which included the Maddjazz produced track "Let Me Show You". They are also set to release another E.P. in the fall of 2009 on the Ol' Head Label which is a subsidiary of the Mad Decent Label. Besides working on remixes Maddjazz is also working on original tracks for a solo project set to launch in late 2009...
