if there is anything clear about DJ/VJ Marquis, it's that he's a man who defines rather than allowing himself to be defined. From his DJing, Recording Artists to Mixing Music Videos, his talents knows no boundaries and DJ/VJ Marquis has also accomplished work in each of these fields as well as much work that blurs the boundaries. Who like neat and tidy definitions; DJ/VJ Marquis may be unsettling. But for those who dare!
Marquis' electric and innovative blend of sounds has its roots in his DJ/Musical career. Marquis began as a fan of all types of music. Marquis incorporates all of these styles into his DJing and Music.
Working with PBS affiliate WTVS, he has put together music for the Emmy Award winning youth program, "Club Connect" and produced soundtracks for various documentaries.
And he didn't stop there. He began producing a number of events and providing major and indie label touring acts to the Detroit area.
More interested in making good music than being tied to a style, he began production work with a number of rap and dance music artists as well as learning more of the technical end as an engineer. His labels, Nu Flava / Mixx Flava Records, clearly demonstrate his ability to produce a number of different musical styles.
Detroit's number one Top-40 music radio stations, WDRQ 93.1 & WKQI (Channel) 955 ask Marquis to bring even more flavor to there station's format and help head up the hottest mix show teams, Hes also founded the first commercial nightly mixshows in Metro Detroit centered on Latin/Electronic dance Music and Detroits Underground Hip-Hop, These shows gained national attention for Marquis.
Marquis's devotion to good music as opposed to a perceived category made him the perfect representative. His high standards help set the tone for his label and other ventures. Working as a producer, remixer on tracks for Barak Recs.Upstart, Metroplex, KMS, and a number of other labels. Hes also made his mark remixing major label artists from Aretha Franklin, Beanie Man, Steely Dan, Daft Phunk, Usher and a whole host of others. While only available as promotional items, the mixes are highly sought out by DJs in the know.
Showing community consciousness and responsibility, he has also performed at various benefit events & organizations in the Metro Detroit community.
Nominated 6 times for the Detroit Music Award for his production work and Djing,
Voted Metro's Detroit ..1 Night Club.
Marquis continues to create and play quality music, paying no mind to narrow definitions of genre and categories. Instead he remains focused on good music in a variety of styles-utilizing the best of all worlds to deliver to the listener a fresh and exciting musical experience.
