Maur..cio Lopes is one of the djs responsible for establishing an electronic music scene in Rio de Janeiro. His career started in 1992 at Kitschenet, one of the first clubs in the city to bet on the genre, and later spread to Rio’s underground electronic music circuit. During the summer of ‘96/’97, he was resident at Hyper Club, in Copacabana, where Rio’s first “techno generation” emerged.
Since ’97, he has been the resident at Oops!! the oldest and most respected techno party in Rio. In long sets that last in average 8 hours at each edition of the party, Maur..cio builds a strong musical identity, away from the fundamentalism of any specific segment withtin electronic music. While even today his style is still hard to be categorized, it is seen as a well-balanced mix of different elements of house, techno and electro and their infinite subdivisions. Besides Oops!!, Maur..cio was resident at Rio’s main clubs, such as Factoria (the first big club in the city dedicated to electronic music, in ’97) and Bunker 94, one of the longest-lasting and best-known clubs of the Brazilian underground scene, where during 5 years (1998/2003) he was in charge of the night Cubik. Presently, he has a monthly residency at Oops!! (long sets - at Fosfobox club) and a bi-monthly residency at Rio’s main after-hours at Dama de Ferro club (Ipanema).
Maur..cio has also played in big events such as Skol Beats, Sonar Brasil (Nokia Trends) and TIM Festival (closing Kraftwerk’s concert). He has played alongside Brazil’s best-known DJs, such as Mau Mau, Renato Lopes, Anderson Noise, Murphy, and international artists such as Laurent Garnier, Sven V..th, Carl Cox, Josh Wink, Tiga, Adam Beyer, DJ Hell, Antony Rother, Booka Shade, Oxia, Chris Liebing, Surgeon, The Hacker, Vitalic, Beroshima, Marco Carola, Matthew Jonson, David Carretta, Terrence Fixmer, Miss Yeti, Oscar Mulero, Kenny Larkin, Marco Bailey and DJ Rush, among others.
Parallel to his DJ career, Maur..cio Lopes works as a producer with DJ Marcelo Schild in the project called Iron Nipples. In 2005, their first single “Partycrasher EP”, was released by the German label M..ller, directed by Frankie M..ller/Beroshima. The first pressing of the record sold out in a few days and the track was included in the Top 10 lists of many artists such as DJ Hell, Takkyu Ishino, Jerome D and Frankie M..ller. In Brazil, the track became a local hit, a genuine floorfiller. The second Iron Nipples international release was the track “Taken by Force”, included in the compilation “Handle with Care”, released by the new label DRILLER, created by Tim Taylor, the name behind the classic label Missile Records. Other artists featured in the compilation are Thomas P. Heckmann, Tim Taylor and DJ ESP. In June 2005, M..ller Records released a special EP with Brazilian remixes (by Iron Nipples and DJ Mau Mau) of the track “The Prophets Obsession”, by Beroshima. In this remix, Iron Nipples turned Broshima’s electroshocker in an energetic and vigorous techno track that was massively played by artists such as Green Velvet, Sven V..th and Beroshima himself.
The last Iron Nipples release was a remix for the track “I Need Some”, by Breno Ung and Renato Bastos, released by the label Pertence, and featured in the playlists of Beroshima, Delon & Dalcan and Paul Nazca among others.
