Stanford (Stanley Foort) was born january 7th, 1968. Being the son of a leadsinger in a soulband, and a gospelchoirsinger, he was destined to become a musician at a young
age. Stanley (Stan 4 friends) was influenced by a wide variety of music, including his fathers record collection. From gospel, James Brown, Jim Reeves and the Motownsound of the 60s, via Michael Jackson, The Police, Earth Wind and Fire and the disco/funksound of the 70s, to Bob Marley, Depeche Mode, Simple Minds, Prince and the New Wave/electro-sound of the early 80s.
At the age of 13 he wanted to play the drums, but mom and dad didn't want to ruin the good relationship with their neighbours, so he took organ lessons instead. In between studying hours he started making his first moves as a dj; with the use of two cassette- decks and a turntable, Stan was able to blend house, new wave, pop, r'n b and disco into an energetic mix. Decks were later replaced by Technics turntables + a sampler. Nowadays, one would call this mixstyle mash-up...
Also dancing was (and still is) one of his entertainment passions, resulting him and some
other crazy dance-maniacs in crushing the World Non-stop Dancing Record, by
dancing for 102 hours non-stop, which is in the Dutch Guinness Book of Records!
More crazy examples? One year later, 1989, he won a car in the finals of a dancecontest.
Ending up selling the car that same night, to split the cash amongst the 6 other final-contestants, including a now very famous cousin ;-)
While dj- and live act-gigs were taking off nationwide, he started working at a recordshop called Midtown. He got signed to their label and in 1990 his first production was released: "Got me goin' crazy", a new jack swing track co-produced by René v.d. Weyde (Atlantic Ocean), featuring his sister Patricia and his cousin Lucien on vocals.
Later that year Techno house project LA Style, already buzzing underground with "James Brown is Dead", were in need of a new frontman... Stan could not refuse the given opportunity to broaden his musical horizon and decided to put his upcoming dj-career on hold in order to do the "James Brown is Dead Worldtour". Of course performing as guest-dj @ the aftershows in countries such as Japan, Germany and Australia.
After a year of touring, Stan left LA Style, bought some studio-gear and started writing and
producing his own tracks at home. In '95, throughout his management, a copy of his demo reached Arnie Friedman, a German producer who loved his soulfull voice.
The result: "Heaven is here", a Euro-house clubhit in Germany. (later covered by 2 Bros. On The 4th Floor). A string of releases followed, but not with the wanted succes...
Back in the Dutch dancescene in '97, Stan and buddy Rene van der Weyde wrote a track about always staying positive: "Keep your head up!" This uplifting tune with catchy vocals was the first release under his Stanford moniker. Dancemusic-producers started noticing the ability of Stan to write strong, not-to-cheesy, deep lyrics (a very rare thing in dancemusic), resulting in more (non)vocal contributions and songwriting.
Want crazy lyrics&vox? He can do that too. Remember Underground Movement ft Stanford with that massive floorfiller "Shake"? Nough said.
Further collabo's were with peepz like Cor Fijneman, Supersub, Bas Thomas, René van der Weyde, Peter Gelderblom, Edwin Pennock, Rene Amesz, Erik de Koning, Mojado, Rockdown Superstarz, Mark van Dale, 2Nefuse, Pedro&Benno (aka Rank 1), Lucien Foort (duh), Mark Norman, Mell Tierra...and the list is still growing.
All these productions, being put out under his own name, as well as aliases such as Stanford!, Spinn-Off and Fortizani, make it cristal-clear that after almost 20 years in the entertainmentbizz, Stan still has the ambition, skills and drive to do it all.
As MC STANFORD, even hosting big clubnights and dance-festivals is a walk in the park for
