DJ MOTHER w/a 12INCH, has recently been making a name for her-self in the LA “underground/private” club scene. A Chicago native, she has been a player in the Deep House “Chicago” sound for many years, self-taught at the age of “13”, influenced by Robert Owens, Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy.
As a child she loved to dance, a shy dancer that is but when she did hit the dance (living room) floor there was no stopping her. As quoted and stated by “Mother w/a 12inch”, “Dancing and Music is my “LIFE”, if it wasn’t for DJ “innovator” Frankie Knuckles playing that song and many other songs, I may not have had the opportunity to experience such great music.
DJ MOTHER w/a 12INCH, was first introduced to the club scene while in her freshman year of high school. The first club she went to would be described as a “juice bar”. This type of club did not serve alcohol, only juice and fruit. The club was the “Warehouse” located on Jefferson and Clinton in Chicago. As she recounts an explicit flashback of the first night she went to the Warehouse, the shoes she wore to the sound effect that would forever become the signature “Trade Mark” sound effect that would go hand-in-hand with “Frankie Knuckles” forever, the “Train”!. Her own words; “I stood on the outskirts of the dance floor mesmerized by the energy of life, spirituality and freedom that filled the room! People were dancing like I’ve never seen before! Free-styling, hustling, modern to African moves; I was in awe. All of sudden out of nowhere I heard an unusual sound coming into close range; then I’m like am I hearing what I think I’m hearing, is that a train? Within seconds the sound was getting louder and it seemed to be vastly approaching me from the left. It was evident that there was no stopping it! So I quickly stepped back a few steps, looked to the left (waiting for a train to come speeding past, duh) not knowing what was going on, then BAM! The train had approached but yet to be seen, it was as real as real can get! The most profound sound effect I ever heard. It was an unbelievable uplifting experience! The people went crazy! Their hands waving in the air, dancing, screaming, chanting “Frankie, Frankie”!! This magical moment changed my LIFE! I may not have been hit by the train physically but it sure hit me spiritually and it became the vehicle that would take me on the road to the beginning of MY LIFE as a DJ”.
DJ MOTHER w/a 12INCH, has held residencies at Chicago local clubs, and radio station WCRX – Chicago Columbia College, Glow and the Generator. In addition to her residencies she has DJ’s at numerous clubs and events locally and nation-wide, Black Cat Productions (Washington, DC), Fusion (Atlanta), Corosh (Chicago), Rails Entertainment (Chicago), Night Crawlers (Chicago), Carol’s Speakeasy (Chicago), Akina Gallery (Chicago), Mars Gallery (Chicago), Black Pride Events (Chicago and Washington DC), Mystery Productions (Chicago), Jilly’s Retro Club (Chicago). During this time she has played along side with legendary “House” DJ’s from CHI-TOWN, Andre Hatchett, Chip E, Joe Smooth and has played sets with Ron Carroll & LEGO. Her passion of music is “Disco & House” of course being a native of Chicago, also a connoisseur to all music genres.
DJ MOTHER w/a 12INCH, has run many successful club nights (underground/private scene) and events out of Chicago. She also has co-produced and produced projects ranging from music, theater and themed events. Her cross-knowledge platform, 15+ years in the music industry, professionalism and artistic artistries has made her an integral part of the DJ community as well as a high demand for her services. She is also active in many events ranging from fund raisers, music and film seminars as well as community service.
