Sounds Like
Every Genre Of Dance Music Mixed together to create a Journey of sound.
Well i try to do that.
As the mixed-genre set may seem like a daunting prospect to many DJs, for Michael Muska it means a set without limitations, enabling him to take punters on the endlessly enthralling journey of sound which has catapulted him to success in the infancy of his DJing career. His abiliy to overstep boundaries and defy industry trends whilst stlill holding and rocking the dance floor really is why Muska is not just a dj but an entertainer.
Michael Muska better known as Muska attended his first rave at the age of 16. By the age of 18 he was ardolosly collecting vinyl and mixing endlessley at home and after parties.. Due to his undeniable passion for music he visited the Mecca of dance music in the country, Melbourne for 1 year at the age of 18, before returning to WA to showcase his influences and sound of techno. He did however find him self immersed in the Drum & Bass and breaks scene for a number of years, raving and collecting music of this style aswell.
However Muska could never completley imerse himself in any other genera other then the ever evolving sounds of techno. His overal taste for electronic music however and his versatility in sound led to his current style of having his own flavor on techno incorporating dirty baselines and groove.
However, as the scene in Perth was not moving in the direction he wanted he moved back to Melbourne. It was there he attained a job at Revolver as a bar tender, this being the hub of Melbourne underground music at the time. It was also the home of the DJ’s DJ, Boogs. Who later on became one of Muskas biggest inspirations, and closet friends.
It is about this time that Muska started the Mixed Messages parties with Tahl (Nick Hamilton) and Shane Tavish. The party soon became a platform for all types of artists non discriminative to genre’s a style of party Melbourne had never seen before inspired from a history of loving all types of music.
As a DJ – Muska’s profile started to gain momentum after he was invited by Boogs to DJ at Revolver Sunday mornings for a number of weeks in a row with his best friend and collegue Tahl – it was from here that his sound reached many punters who were to appreciate his style at the time which comfortably sat on the fence of underground techno and accessible club music. Something that a the time was not an easy task to deliver.
From there it was about 2006 when the parties expanded and so did his residencies at clubs such as Revolver, Candy Bar, Roxanne Parlour, Escobar, TFU, Bimbo Deluxe, Lucky Coq and more. However, it was not until after being approached by Brown Alley at the end of 2008 to join their crew and resident lineup that he finally reached a level in his career that secures his place as one of Melbourne's most backed djs. It was here for the first time Muska felt he was able to showcase his true and most experimental sound and dj sets, as well as collaborate and run his own events showcasing some of Melbourne's biggest underground parties.
Which leads us to 2009 where Muska now supports nearly every major techno lineup in the city, playing at parties such as Darkbeat, Likes Of You, Sunny, Lucky Coq Saturday nights, summer Festivals and his own party concepts Mixed Messages as-well as touring nationally regularly.
2009 also see’s Muska making his way into the production field, after 8 years of being self taught on his chosen program Reason. Be sure to look out in the near future for solo projects and collaborations with some of Melbourne’s most respected and internationally recognized producers.
Muska has hosted & supported internationals such as
Lutzenkirchen / Tomcraft / Martain Eyerer / Drumattic Twins / Worthy / Dekline / Chris Fortier / ANTIX / Stephen Bodzin / Meat Katie / Rouge Element / Elite Force / Mark Henning / Peter Juergen / Shapeshifter / Ewan Pearson / Kid Dub / Style Of Eye / Chew Fu Phat / Ed rush & Optical / Dave Spoon / Proxy / Jenifer Cardini / Matrik / Mark Romboy / Daniel Steinberg / Thomas Schumacher / Silicon Soul / Slam / Fergie / Stanton Warriors / Audion / Oxia / Dub Funk / Pan Tone / Jim Rivers / Lee Combes / Teebee & Calyix / TRG / DeadMau5 / Ricco Tubbs / SOS / Hybrid + more
As you can see by the acts Muska has supported you can start to get an idea of how diverse his sound can be a. His flavour of techno really does apeall to all parts of the dance music scene.
Juggling every style of elecktronic music, his own regular parties and production it dose not take long to see why Muska's is not only seen to be one of Melbourne's most high profile dj acts but also one of the most hardest working djs in Australia.
