DJ Mystery started djing back in 1987 at the young age of 11.

THE PAST........

After growing up in London and being influenced by the 'different' songs that I heard on pirate radio stations, I started mixing at a time when the 'Acid house' scene was starting.
I moved away from London to the Surrey area and after a few years at the age of 16 when the 'Hardcore' scene had arrived I got a break djing on a couple of local pirate radio station's 'Radio active' and 'Energy fm'
This lead to a promotions company booking me to play at various raves and clubs around the south of england for events such as 'One nation' 'Fusion' 'rhythm station' to name a few.

Pirate radio / DJing & raving was a big part of my life back in the day and Im lucky to have such fond memories of what is best described as a 'crazy and amazing era' (with some of the best tunes ever made coming out)
I count myself very lucky to have been part of that scene and to have even played at the clubs / raves / radio stations etc.
Memories of climbing up on rooftops putting up aeriels to broadcast, The strange weirdo's who used to threaten us in bedsits coz we were interfearing with there TV's etc.
Walking in a group of about 8 people from one area to another carrying decks / mixers / records / transmitter / cables etc because we were all too young to drive and couldnt scrounge a lift off anybody!
Driving up to London to buy a rig to get on air, then on the way back my mate writing off his car and getting stuck in london for 5 hours!
The feeling of hearing loads of amazing tunes being played at a rave then hunting them down at your local record shop on a saturday afternoon. Seeing thousands of people at an event with there hands in the air going mad to a big piano riff with a sped up vocal....ahhh the memories ;-)

I have also been lucky in releasing a few records over the past years touching on Hardcore/House/Speed Garage/Drum & Bass and a few 'mash up white labels' although I dont really have the time nowadays to mess about in studio's but I still like creating my own re-edits of House tunes just for my own personal use.
I used to manage an independant record shop back in the 90's which was an amazing experience at the time and met some sound (and not so sound) people through working there.

THE PRESENT.......

After a quiet spell (due to being loved up and under the thumb for about 6 years) I landed a show in 2004 on Guildford's new legal radio station 'Kane fm'
This opened the door once again and since then I been regulary djing out at various clubs, bars around the surrey and hants area with more recent work for events such as 'SO? party' / 'WOK club' / 'Guilfest'(aka Guildford festival) in places like Brighton, London, Guildford, Leeds, Essex and in 2005 played out in Ibiza and at the legendary 'Helter skelter' old skool night at Club eden. Other work in Ibiza has included 'Hush' bar and 'The orange corner'.
Over the years I have djed at various events alongside many big names in the game from all across the board such as DJ Hype / LTJ Bukem / Nicky Black market / Slipmatt / Seduction / Orbital / xpress 2 / Stanton warriors / Grant Nelson / Freestylers / Norman Jay / Freemasons / DJ Swerve etc. (the list goes on).

I also present two radio shows on two internet radio stations - Groove Motion show every other Wednesday 8-10pm on www.ssradiouk.com (playing the best in soulful, deep and funky house) / DJ Mystery show every other Tuesday 8-10pm on www.radioactivefm.co.uk
Ive allways had a passion for a wide range of music, from House, old skool, Breakbeat, old skool hip hop, funk & soul, Reggae - I have never been only into one type of music. I got a lot of time for many different styles....
EXCEPT - New hip hop / Any Trance / Any Happy Hardcore / Hard dance or whatever its called / New Drum and Bass (but big up the 90's Drum and Bass music.
I am a serious vinyl junkie and I am happy that I still love my music and what Im doing after all these years. ....
Nowadays I mainly play out House (soulful/funky) under the name 'Groove motion' with my DJing partner Wayne Altham But I still regulary get booked to play alot of classic sets (hardcore/acid house/u.s garage). As I have had the DJ name 'Mystery' for nearly 20 years now, I decided to stick with it even though there are plenty of other DJ Mystery's out there.
*********APRIL 2008 UPDATE********
