   About Nate Manic
OUT NOW ON STOMPY AND JUNODOWNLOAD...

Greetings, thanks for stopping by. I'm Nate Manic. I love robots.
I started out playing organ by ear when I was 2 years old. This continued until I was 6, when my parents put me into private lessons, which sucked at the time. When I was in 5th grade I started singing. I continued playing the organ and piano, and taught myself how to play the guitar in 7th grade.
The next 3 years were pretty uneventful. Then, in 1992, I went to Germany on an exchange program and discovered wonderful, wonderful Techno music. The scene was amazing. Coming back my senior year I made it a point to sneak out as much as possible so I could go to raves in the area.
So in 1994 I started attending UW-Madison on a 4-year, full tuition Music Scholarship for voice. I couldn't stand it. Faced with the possibility of being a choir director for the rest of my life- and please don't get me wrong; that is a very noble profession and most of my choir teachers were instrumental in my musical upbringing- I did what any self-respecting college student would do- I dropped out. After enrolling at the Madison Media Institute I got my Associate's Degree in Music Recording Technology. It was about that time that I met this dude Adem Tesfaye (formerly of Black Poet's Society), and started seriously working on music as Illustrate Rek. I made a ton of great music and then I moved to Chicago in 2000 to pursue a full-time career as a DJ.
Chicago is pretty awesome and I started out pretty fast. Some memorable gigs at the time include the Cross in London, Headlining Milwaukee's Summerfest opening day with DJ Colette and some great guest spots in Madison and Milwaukee. I spent about 6 months as a member of the Balance Record Pool and I also have had the opportunity to play in some great clubs here with DJs like John Digweed, Kaskade, Ian Pooley, Derrick Carter, Luke Solomon, DJ Krush, Juan Atkins and Murk.
About 2 1/2 years ago I started a Thursday night at this bar and lounge called Moonshine. From there I became the Music Director, started doing my Sunday Morning Funk and Soul Brunch in addition to Thursdays and also did some DJing on Saturdays for them. I still DJ there about every other Saturday during the winter and Spring and always have a lot of fun and Irish Car Bombs.
Which brings me to the next chapter, my new record label Bad Advice Inc. You can get more info on that one by clicking on the Bad Advice logo in my top friends list. So far we've managed to string together a pretty awesome catalog, pretty much all for the dancefloor, by Full Phat, HeavyFeet, Genna db Greene, Chad North, Derrick Carter, James Curd, Jon Milsom, Nick Maurer, Invisible Stroke, Cheap As Chimps, Tommy Largo, Bryan Jones and myself. An all-digital catalog comprised of some great Downtempo, Trip Hop, Ambient IDM and other living room tunes will be featured as well in the coming months. Check out my music. Feel free to comment on it. Producer? Label owner? You're the person I want to talk to. Chicago has an amazing wealth of talented producers and DJs to get behind and it would be a shame if their music went unheard, ya heard?
In recent months I've also taken on a fucking awesome position as a member of the Style Matters DJ collective. Founded in 2007 by Orchard Lounge's Spencer Lokken, we are a group of club djs dedicated to providing quality, tasteful soundtracks for private events, art gallery openings, fashion shows, weddings and corporate parties. For more info you can check out http://www.stylemattersdjs.com .
Well, that's about it. Thanks for reading this very self-indulgent bio. I look forward to entertaining you all.
smooches, Nate Manic
