Okay, so maybe I was stretching the truth, but giving to charity does make the world a better place.
On Wednesday, June 27th, I peeped out the Sole Inspiration Sneaker Exhibit/Shoe Drive @ Sputnik in BK. Was happy to see DJ Premier’s best friend Black at the door, turns out he’s a part-owner of the venue. Patrice and Nesto did a great job producing the event. Chris Vidal of Flight Club and King Karl of the Vault broke down some history of sneaker culture on the mic, while E “the Custom Queen” and Un of Tough City sneaker brand, among others, diplayed their wares on tables in the back. 2 trailers of upcoming sneaker documentaries were screened as well.
I brought the MSG Network “Summerball” cameras to catch it, so be on the lookout for a feature on an upcoming show soon (we air every thursday 7pm).
Shout-out to my former Footwork store Nike sales rep Gene Smith who was in the building chilling. Wooord up!

Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to play an instrument. I had my eyes both on the sax and the piano. I wanted to be a musican like Coltrane or Thelonious Monk, two jazz legends and cool mo fo's.
Well, long story short, I never learned how to play either instrument but I did the next best thing... I became a Dj.
It happened quite accidentally too. About 6 yrs back, I promoted a weekly at an Uptown lounge called The Sugar Shack. One night, the deejay i hired, Dj Marc Smooth cancelled on me cause we had a disagreement. I was in a jam but I couldn't cancel the party and I couldn't find another dj either. Not knowing what to do, Mr. Network himself...Charles Anthony, brilliantly suggested that I hook my laptop into an amp... I did... It worked... And the rest is, as they say... history.
So, I've been rocking ever since.
I love music. It has an immense ability to affect ones spirit and consciousness. The effects are often subtle yet powerfully persuasive. Who can deny Michael Jackson's great catalog that makes everyone wanna boogy? Or how about Bob Marley's music that enrich and inspire listeners. Many artists have had hits, but not all hits are timeless.
I love Djaying, especially at a lively event where folks wanna groove. It takes a certain knack to play music that connects with a body of folks, but when that connections happens... its electrifying. I strive to make this connection everytime I play whether it be funk or crunk.

You're a DJ of the SOUL because not only does your eclectic musical orchestrations move one to dance but it also compels one to think outside the box of what good musical taste should be, "a Jambalaya of various musical genres".
