DJ Overkill

About me:

Fred R. also known as Overkill was born in New York City to Chilean parents in the late 70's. He first began listening to Electronic music when he would collect underground mixtapes from the likes of Frankie Bones, Carl Cox, Bad Boy Bill, Richie Hawtin & Sven Vath. At the same time he was also inspired by Hip Hop artist such as Eric B. & Rakim, Nas, Cypress Hill, A Tribe Called Quest & Run DMC. Both music cultures inspired Fred to save money through Middle School to purchase his first pair of 1200's in the beginning of his Freshmen year. During those years Fred had relocated to the DC area in the early 90's, he would purchase vinyl weekly from stores such as 12" Dance Records, Musicnow (later Yoshitoshi) & Tower Records. He was influenced early on by the sounds of Masters At Work (Little Louie Vega & Kenny Dope), Todd Terry, David Morales, Erick Morillo, Armand Van Helden, DJ Sneak & labels such as Strictly Rhythm, Cutting, Nervous, Cajual, Relief & Underground Construction. During one of his visits at the local record shop, Fred signed up for a DJ competition hosted by Bobbe West from MC Bitch Productions At the age of 16, he had his first opportunity to play in front of 1000 people to exhibit his skills. Since then, he has networked with various promoters & DJ's in the DC metro area such as Buzzlife, Panorama, ELM, M3 and venues including Ibiza, 1223, Home, Insomnia as well as various bars & lounges throughout DC/MD & VA. After Y2K and the rise of the Digital Revolution, Fred is now using Scratch Serato and is working on establishing his own material. He currently enjoys playing music from labels such Cadenza, Ovum, Desolat, Sci-Fi, Poker Flat & Cocoon which publish music for artists such as Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Josh Wink, Dubfire, Steve Bug & Loco Dice. Fred continues to purchase & collect rare vinyl from his early inspirations and will play them out. As of recent he has worked on various projects & events with Trickset (Sound Design), Moses (Arkateks), J Boog (I&I Vibration), Team Zapata (ELM) & Edson S. (Backtracks) producing & spinning tracks ranging from Hip Hop, Reggae, House, Progressive, Minimal, Techno, Electro to Drum & Bass. ....
