Too many to mention. I will single out a few, because they have inspired me to dedicate my life to music, and they still inspire me everyday, when I start my day with music and end my day with music. James Brown is still my Soulbrother # 1, the Alpha and Omega of music. But I have a deep appreciation for the talents of Leroy Hutson / The Voices of East Harlem / Curtis Mayfield / Mandrill / The Impressions / The Three Pieces / Sir Joe Quarterman / Oneness of Juju / New Birth / Donny Hathaway / Stevie Wonder / Lyn Collins (my dear sister, R.I.P.) / Marva Whitney (love ya) / The JBs / John Lucien / Bootsy / John Coltrane (A Love Supreme is the most important piece of music every written, IMO), Joe Henderson / Roy Ayers / Otis Redding / Ramp / The Dramatics / Minnie Ripperton / The Three Pieces / Rasputin's Stash / Sly / The Temptations / Undisputed Truth / Gladys Knight / The Natural Four / The Notations / Maceo Parker / The Counts / The Ohio Players / Earth Wind & Fire / Smokey Robinson / Aretha Franklin / Baby Huey and the Babysitters / Magnum / War / Harold Alexander / Oliver Nelson / Louis Armstrong / Eugene McDaniels / Funk Inc. / Brass Construction / Candi Staton / Fela Kuti / Jack McDuff / Gil Scott Heron & Brian Jackson / George Clinton / Larry Young / Eddie Harris / Leon Thomas / George Benson / Hank Ballard / Lonnie Smith / The Blackbyrds / Same & Dave / Linda Clifford / Main Ingredient / Marie Queenie Lyons / The Emotions / Jimmy Smith / The Dells / Donald Byrd / Isaac Hayes / Gwen McCrae / Rufus Thomas / Al Green / Ray Charles / Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings / Jimmy McGriff / Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings / The Beginning of the End / Quincy Jones / Marvin Gaye / Clifford Coulter / Tower of Power / Bloodstone / Les McCann / Dyke & The Blazers / Joe Tex / Booker T. & The M.G.s / Kool & the Gang / The Isley Brothers / Coldblood / I will add more names later ...
Filmler
I love the classic blaxploitation movies, such as "Superfly", "Shaft", "Truck Turner", "Coffy", "Foxy Brown" - you get the idea. I also dig Quentin's stuff, like "Jackie Brown", but never got into "Pulp Fiction". More favorites: "The Big Lebowsky", "Being John Malkovich", "Ladykillers" and documentaries like "Wattstax" or "Respect yourself: The Story of Stax".

Televizyon
Not too big on TV. I like PBS documentaries, and I mainly watch news channels. But I do like Jay Leno and John Stewart.

Books are like records to me. I gotta own them, and once I've read them, I still may pull them out to read them again. I don't really read novels ... I favour biographies.

If you're talking Funk, you're talking DJ Pari. This is a guy who has done it all. When he told his friends back in the early '90s that he'd tour the world, DJ behind James Brown and turn whole dancefloors into pools of sweat by playing nothing but solid, organic and vintage Soul, Funk and Boogaloo, no one doubted that he would do what he said he'd do. And he did.
“I never got it quite right to master an instrument enough to make a living of it,” Pari said. But that's okay. Not everyone can be a musician. Instead, Pari became the guy behind the master musicians of the genre that he loves so much. Today, he is not just a DJ, but a promoter, booking agent, artist manager and producer. He also writes quite well, not just songs, but stories for newspapers and magazines. The only thing he doesn't do is sing, play sports and lap dance.
DJ Pari got heavily into music in the early 1990s, at the height of Europe's Acid Jazz movement. But he soon moved from his native Germany to the United States, to study Soul and Jazz music. He first lived in Phoenix, then Los Angeles, where he hosted club nights for the Black Eyed Peas, Ozomatli and Mandrill. Before moving back to Europe, he hooked up with the James Brown show and even traveled with the Godfather of Soul.
In 2004, he launched his Soulpower organization in Hannover, Germany. Its mission – to bring back long forgotten legends of Soul and Funk. In the following years Pari toured/worked/played with Lyn Collins, Bobby Byrd, Mandrill, Vicki Anderson, War, RAMP, Roy Ayers, Bootsy Collins, Fred Wesley, Sweet Charles Sherrell, Lonnie Liston Smith, Pee Wee Ellis, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Ann Sexton, Martha High, the Soul Generals, Maceo Parker and many more.
But Pari's biggest coup was to become manager for James Brown's Soulsister Number One, Marva Whitney. With Marva, he toured the world and hitched her up with Japanese Funk group Osaka Monaurail - a relationship that resulted in the production of Whitney's recent album “I am what I am”. Pari also managed Gwen McCrae, but that didn't turn out too well.
As a DJ Pari, has performed at the hippest clubs in most European countries (England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France, Holland, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, Norway, Sweden, Finland), Tunisia, Hong Kong and he has done multiple tours all over Japan. In the United States, he has performed in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Phoenix, New York, Washington and Richmond, Virginia, where he now lives.
Pari currently hosts his monthly Soulpower party in Richmond and he is co-host of the weekly radio show “Midnight Soulstice” (fridays from 11 pm – 1 am on W-RIR 97.3 fm or www.wrir.org). Fred Wesley, Marva Whitney, Leroy Hutson, Lonnie Liston Smith, Mandrill and The New Birth have already guested on his show.
That's why we think it's safe to say, if you're talking Funk, you're talking DJ Pari. At least at some point.
