TECHNO IN THE SNOW - Patricia Starr at Le Souk, New York (USA)
Already beloved in the USA (according to DJ TIMES US 2006), adored in South America (La Casbah & Hed Kandi) for her great DJ sets and Europe has become her second home with frequent gigs in Greece (Cavo Paradiso, Senso , Desire …) , Poland (Lemoniada, Midgrad, Inferno …) France, Serbia… Patricia Starr is living somewhat of a DJ’s fairytale.
Personally I met Miss Patricia Starr back in 2003 while attending one of unforgettable nights at New York City’s mega club CHINA CLUB where she packed the main dance floor with hyper clubbers and was privileged to be the Saturday resident. At that time Patricia scored with a number 2 Billboard Dance Chart Hit for an her remix of ARIA “Ti Amo” which aired on radio shows around USA for a few months and disappeared into the sea of “…I haven’t heard that song in years” songs.
Of course her career didn’t start there but if only watching from 2003 until now, you can quickly realize Patricia’s massive advancement. If you want to book her today, then you at least have to approach her manager Kenny Krytell (8th AV records) thus her schedule books months in advance.
Having reached Le Souk just before 12 am a small amount of people was already eagerly awaiting the headliner DJ thou the initiator DJ Cheric kicked off the night by dropping excellently driving and grooving house beats. His opening set was the incarnation of what I was expecting from a warm-up a perfect blend of techy and progressive, but yet kicking and classy tunes that gathered momentum and set a powerful base for the night.
“It’s a late crowd... people just arriving but I am ready hit the decks” Patricia says waiting by the DJ booth to take over the Le Souk main floor from DJ Cheric. When seeing each other last time Miss Starr still carried tons of vinyl with her. Technological evolution however played against the 12” discs, so today she’s traveling light. Her entire musical arsenal is stored on silver Mac G4 with chrome letters across the top reading PATRICIA STARR and Serato Scratch Live is used to compose the soundtrack for the night. Until around 1 30 am Patricia was dishing up a blend of tech-house and minimal driving percussive techno jungle. In particular the people went crazy over several Mathias Kadens productions. Once again the Le Souk’s strong sound system and the amazing quality clubber crowd were the perfect setting for having a great night to the tunes of Dubfire, Radio Slave, Shlomi Aber and Seth Troxler.
There’s not much to think of some intoxicated clubber trying to get into the DJ booth, but on the occasion of Patricia’s Techno In The Snow party he nailed it down quite well “That Girl plays amazing” Well in that case he’s just simply right. What he does not know is that Patricia produced the tune he was hearing as she dropped her yet unreleased track “ Moonlight ” signed to HUSHTEK recordings. This song is scheduled for release in 2009 with 5 remixes by other producers. Patricia has released six original productions in 2008 on More Music Records South Africa & Eye Records Italy and has 4 releases scheduled for January on Hushtek Recordings USA and X-list Records USA. I will be keeping my ears and eyes open as this young woman’s demeanor and consistency will most certainly make an impact on a global electronic music scene.
