About me:
DJ Pete Avila Biography
Many talented DJs have helped put San Francisco on the map but none more than Pete Avila. He is the Bay Area's original house DJ and has helped define what the world knows as the San Francisco sound. Pete's music speaks with reverence, fueling his image as a messenger and advocate of spiritual house. In 1991, Pete Avila pioneered the Bay Area's first house mix show on 106 KMEL"The Underground" and went on to produce and create KMEL's "Your Mama's House" in 1993 with DJs David Harness and MC Foxxee. The show's seven year success helped elevate club and DJ culture in the Bay Area but more importantly was first to give dance artists world-wide a long overdue platform and voice to be heard in the U.S.
As an international DJ, Pete has been invited to play the world's premiere nightclubs including Twilo, Limelight, and Subliminal in NYC. Pete has held residencies at established venues like Sound Factory, The End-Up Sunday T-Dance, Fag Fridays, Universe, Colossus, Ghetto Disco, Club DV8 and Release to name a few. As a promoter, he's created legendary clubs Osmosis, Twirl, Carefree, Thrive and Nature. The list of special events and outdoor festivals include Gay Pride Parade in SF, LA, & San Jose, Cyberfest, Organic, Funky Tekno Tribe and ToonTown. Pete believes strongly in giving back to his community and continues to support and lend his talent to benefits like AIDS Dance-A-thon, Global DJ Mix Awards, AIDS Walk, 3D Singapore and Macy's Passport.
Pete Avila has achieved global recognition through his remix and production work in the studio. His discography reads like a who's who of dance music. Pete has worked with dance legends like Martha Wash, Jocelyn Brown, KOT, Todd Terry, Inaya Day, Romanthony and Julie McKnight. He's also remixed multi-platinum artists like Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Usher, Boyz II Men, Pink, Kenny Lattimore and Donell Jones . Most recently, Pete has joined forces with legendary producer Eric D. Clarke of Whirlpool Productions in Germany to form "The Fringe". The duo has already remixed Ne-Yo's 'All Because of You' for Def Jam and have completed production on several unsigned original songs available for licensing and distribution.
