DJ Rhythma is Eric Schmidt, formerly known as DJ E. Born on the east coast and then raised on beats from around the world. Rhythma started spinning in 1988 and was heavily influenced by the rise of hip-hop and the birth of techno. During this time he was one of the few Dj’s to blend genres, blurring the lines about what it meant to be a Dj – focusing on the emotion vs. the genre of the music. Playing in clubs and house parties, Rhythma worked his way through the house and electronic scenes of Philadelphia, the southeast playing and opening for the likes of Kaskade, Andy Hunter, King Britt, Felix the Housecat and Grandmaster Flash. For the past the past 10 years, Rhythma has made Seattle his home.
Hundreds of parties, countless hours in the studio and many late nights later his passion to move the dance floor burns on.
Now focusing on the afro-beat, reggaeton, baile funk, bhangra, samba and rhythms from the greater genre that is modern global, Rhythma enjoys expressing his old-school funk and electro roots with today’s emerging rhythms. He keeps a close eye and ear on his respected influences including: Diplo, Louie Vega, Red Astair, DJ Krush and Nas.
You can catch Rhythma each month along side his Dj partner and good friend Darek Mazzone as they present JUICE. JUICE is a blending of the latest beats from Paris, Sao Paulo, London, Lagos, New York, New Dehli, Istanbul and is Seattle's only monthly modern global music club night.
Who I'd like to meet: Anyone, except people who are mean.
So I was downtown Seattle last weekend and this bum on the side of the road off 1st street gave me this poem. I'm think about using it in a song but not to sure if I should or not. Let me know what you think of it... I'm also still looking for a drummer. Let me know. The good one's are always hard to find.
Midnight of a brave soul advances on the page of a burning book to heal the words of a hart while the eyes that read invite the most serene light to wash away the simple spell of hate on the dark cover of a noble letter.
