ROBIN BALL BIOGRAPHY
It’s been 21 years since Robin started his DJ and promotion career and his dedication and passion for underground dance music is as strong as ever. Today sees Robin as the man behind ‘Socialeyes’ currently held at one of London’s most loved clubs, Corsica Studios. However his career has seen him playing regularly at many legendary London clubs including Plan B, The Egg, The End, Heaven, Club UK, Full Circle, The Gas Club, Sex Love & Motion, The Cross, and many more further afield.
Robin started his DJ career in 1990 putting on small parties in venues around South West London until in 1992 he was offered a weekly residency for Lush at Simpsons in Berkshire and later House of Windsor playing alongside early heroes Sasha, Danny Rampling, Judge Jules, Leftfield, Carl Cox…. He then moved on to the London scene playing at many underground house and techno nights as well as regular visits abroad to tour the clubs around the Island of Gran Canaria. In 1997 Robin spent a year in Australia playing at some of the best clubs and parties in Sydney before returning to London to set up his record label Groovepressure.
In 2000 and as Groovepressure was flourishing, Robin created sub label, Groove Pleasure while continuing to take his trade overseas, frequently touring France at Paris club legends Elysée Montmartre, Le Gibus, and Follies Pigalle and right across the country from the Oscilloscope Festival in the North to Dock De Sud, Villa Rouge, Le Trolley Bus and Le Prive in the South. He was also a regular at the legendary Rachdingue in Spain - an old haunt of the artist Salvador Dalí who opened and became a patron of the club. Robin brought the Groove Pleasure vibe across to France with club nights of the same name, featuring guests like Suburban Knight, Kevin Saunderson, Stacey Pullen, Funk D Void, Luke Slater, Andrew Weatherall, Terry Francis, Miguel Migs, Silicone Soul, Luke Solomon, Justin Harris, Kenny Hawkes, Mark Broom, Colin Dale, Sub Focus, Dillinja and Plump Dj’s.
In 2006 Robin decided it was time to start a London night with a concept that was close to his heart. Having been involved in all types of music events from small clubs to big festivals he’d always had a love of intimate parties with a good sound system and a great crowd, so he started “Socialeyes” hosting special one-off events in cool venues around London, including the acclaimed boat parties, always pushing open-minded, forward thinking electronic dance music on only the best sound systems in intimate fun spaces along with guest djs Funk D Void, Max Cooper, Terry Francis, Matt Tolfrey, Justin Robertson, Silicone Soul, Ben Sims, Mark Broom, The Advent, Colin Dale, Bar9, Tayo, Elite Force, Rob Sparx and Slyde.
Currently you’ll find regular radio shows from Robin on internet radio station, Samurai FM. The two sides to Robin’s musical passion are displayed in the two different shows he hosts; Groove Pleasure which is house, techno, electro & disco while GroovePressure plays dubstep, breaks, beats & bass for which he plays under the name Robin Beats.
Anyone that gets to know Robin, will know that he’s not a man that likes to stand still for very long, always pushing forward with his passion, always living through his love of music. His is a name that everyone should know. His dedication to his craft over the years is deserved of the respect he is given in this business. He’s also a very nice man.
