Progressiveouse.com Review: Tini Tun - Unfinished Business EP
Tini Tun is kind of a legend in the Mexican progressive / electronic music circles, he was one of the first Mexican DJs to open for the legendary Sasha & Digweed and he also played in the legendary Twilo sessions with the duo. As you may know he runs his We Are Here label and now he gives us the “Unfinished Business EP” on Kansak Records with plenty of mixes to suit every style of DJing out there.
The Original mix has a trippy vibe, with some old school analog feel in the melody and beats, a track suited for a mid progressive set. I don’t know why but this track has a Northern Exposure-esque kind of feel... you be the judge.
Next is Logiztik Sound's interpretation, elevating the track to a different level with a more dynamic and modern feel. This mix is a true prog techy tune that still retains some of the melodic elements of the original, but in a more recessed way. This mix also introduces a new melodic element not available in the Original Mix. This is more upbeat and suited for an energetic part of your set. I like this baby!
Rodrigo Espinoza brings his mix next. His feel is techier than Logistik’s - heavy on the bass and the melodic elements. This tune fits perfectly into the style of Jim Rivers' Nubreed set, bouncy all over, making you want to move your feet. This track would definitely be in your early to mid section, perfect for shifting gears into something more danceable. This one is good too!
Minoru Hirata brings the punchiest of all the mixes here with a Techno rendition of the original. You can easily spot the techno melody here with a bassline that fuses prog and techno quite intelligently. The melody of the original is almost none existent here but that doesn’t detract you from wanting more. This is a driving piece of music for a serious set... quite nice!
Finally, we have Alex Aguilar's interpretation. This is as trippy as it can get! The original melody is surrounded by a trippy fx straight out of Digweed's 1st Bedrock. It’s very analog retro, but still sounding very modern and deep. This is suited for those deep trippy, intelligent warmup sets; try it out next time.
Overall, this is a well-rounded package, with mixes for all styles and times, you won’t be disappointed in that. My pick? Logistik Sounds and Rodrigo Espinoza steal the thunder in the package… you be the judge!
