Since first arriving in Australia back in 1998, Semper-Fi has been steadily gaining ground in the ever-growing Sydney scene. From playing his first gigs on the Montage radio show on 2SER and busting out on renegade systems for Ohms Not Bombs, to winning the Radio Dex Bedroom Bangers comp in 2000 and coming runner-up in the Great Australian Bite production comp for ‘Track Won’, his first few years in the country laid the groundwork for even bigger things to come. Since then Semper-Fi has had the honour of opening up for a cross section of international specialists covering territory from dub & reggae, to hip-hop, dubstep and of course drum’n’bass. In the past few years he’s opened for reggae legends Sly & Robbie with a jungle / dancehall set, more chilled out vibes for dub pioneers Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Mad Professor, and straight up hip-hop for UK heavyweight DJ MK (Roots Manuva’s DJ), not to mention regular slots with New Zealand’s Salmonella Dub who also brought him along for 2005’s massive 4 date Dub Conspiracy tour and the legendary Kaikoura Roots Festival in 2006. ANZAC connections have also seen him open for more of Aotearoa’s finest such as Fat Freddy’s Drop, Kora, DLT & Mighty Asterix and Cornerstone Roots. Locally over the years he’s played almost every drum’n’bass/dubstep club night in Sydney including Airbourne, Kerfuffle, Lost In Jungle, Blueprint, Basscode, VOID, raves such as Hyperspeed, Rush Hour, Xstruction, Happy Valley and the notorious DNBBQ. Gigs outside the local sector include Enchanted Summer Festival (Adelaide), Homebass (Canberra), Bass High, Optic Nerve, Bassoids (Melbourne), Underground Dancehall (Christchurch, NZ) and Havana (Wellington, NZ). Other secondary objectives have included writing music reviews for various magazines including Sain, UBM (RIP) and his former monthly drum’n’bass column for Australia’s biggest dance music website www.inthemix.com.au not to mention co-hosting the ‘Motion’ radio show bi-weekly on Sydney’s Rhythm FM before it’s untimely demise. 2006 saw the successful launch of the Jungle Genius parties in a downtown warehouse spaces, ramming each night with all night back-to-back madness from a selection of Sydney’s finest jungle/dnb selectors and mc’s. Semper-Fi also joined forces with foreign agent MC Halfcast on special assignment from Philadelphia USA, to release their first EP on the Dub Conspiracy label. The EP brings together sounds of hip hop, dancehall and drum'n'bass with Semper-Fi's heavy beats feeding fire to Halfcast’s explosive conscious lyrics spat in true east coast form. For the release the pair toured with Salmonella Dub, Kora and Budspells on the last Dub Conspiracy Tour. 2007 has seen extensive touring along the east coast of Australia & New Zealand with the DNBBQ crew as well as many gigs and new tracks on a more dubstep vibe. ..END TRANSMISSION . . . . . . . . . . . ...
