DJ, producer and music club owner - Shahrokh Dini teams up with Andreas Koehler (aka SoundofK) as ‘Shahrokh Sound of K’, the deep house project formed back in 2006 that can be found on the influential Compost ‘Black Label’. Where Shahrokh started DJ’ing back in 1995, Andreas was a student of classical music, working as a professional pianist and cello player in the SWR Symphony Orchestra whilst aquiring a taste for electronica. After a successful debut single with the 2006 release ‘Owl Flight’ the guys followed up with an overwhelming contribution to the 2007 compilation ‘Compost Black Label Series Vol.2' (Taking their track ‘Chicago’) and now prepare to release their debut long player entitled ‘Dripping Point’. Taking influence from the 80’s Chicago house sound ‘Shahrokh Sound of K’ are bucking the current trend for ‘Minimal’ instead preferring to highlight the melodic side of house as demonstrated with last year’s ‘Chicago’ funk workout. It’s easy to see why the ‘Shahrokh’ sound is comparitable that that of Sonar Kollectiv’s Ame. Andreas Schorpp is probably the reason why. Responsible for mixing and engineering not only every Ame track since 2003 Andreas has now turned his attention to the ‘Sound of K’. Featuring the vocal talents of Australian singer Jamie Lloyd and Swedish songstress Siri Svegler ‘Dripping Point’ achieves a coup by aquiring the services of the unmistakable (And on form) Robert Owens. After a few raised eyebrows and heavy rotation we were impressed with what we were hearing. Rather than rant paragraphs of drivel we thought the best way for you to get an idea of what you can expect from ‘Dripping Point’ was to put together a sampler mix featuring a few tracks taken from the album. Shahrokh Sound of K. will release their debut long-player on Compost next month. The brainchild of Iranian native and Karlsruhe resident Shahrokh and Sound of K. main man Andreas Köhler, the project has seen the boys releasing a number of 12-inches for the Compost imprint and getting good responses from the likes of Rainer Trüby, Sasse and Âme. As you might expect from such a cast of supporters, the sound of the album—entitled Dripping Point—is varied, but held together by a live and soulful feel, taking in influences from some of their favorite music from the world of Afro, house, jazz and disco. House kann durchaus geeignet sein für lauschige Stunden daheim. Und doch scheitern die meisten Produzenten bei dem Versuch, ihre ursprüngliche Energie auch auf Albumlänge zu halten, ihr einen Mehrwert zu geben, der sich auch ohne Tropfen von der Discodecke erschließt. Shahrokh Sound of K. jedoch überspringt diese Hürde ganz spielerisch und landet mit Dripping Point einen Volltreffer, der es mit Leichtigkeit unter die Besten dieses Jahres schafft. Schon der Kontrabass von „Break It Down“ deutet auf große musikalische Mittel hin, und auch der Gesang von Jamie Lloyd ist weit über Standard. Und so reihen sich hier Keyboards, Celli und weitere Ausnahmesänger wie Toyin Taylor („Love Happens“ darf natürlich nicht fehlen), Siri Svegler und Robert Owens in einen kaleidoskopischen Reigen. Da fügen sich auch Funk („Ilike“), gepflegter Bounce („Time And Again“) und Atmosphärisches („Perfect Stranger“) zusammen wie selten, und einzelne Tracks bekommen einen klanglich übergeordneten Kontext. Wenn das doch immer so einfach wäre! Einfach wunderbar. (GROOVE)

Im süddeutschen Karlsruhe gibt es, wie in anderen Städten dieser Größe, einige wenige Aktivisten, die für clubkulturelle Events sorgen. In der badischen Landeshauptstadt ist das u.a. der Iraner Sharokh Dini, der mit seinen Clubnights hauptsächliche elektronische Musik supportet. In seinem eigenen Club (Mood Lounge) geben sich internationale Schlüsselfiguren der House & Freestyleszene die Klinke in die Hand. Metro Area, Carl Craig, Rainer Trüby, Jazzanova, Peter Kruder, King Britt, Ame, Frank Roger oder DJ Naughty haben hier schon mit dem Chef selbst am Plattenteller gestanden. Seit 1995 produziert und veröffentlicht Sharokh seine musikalischen Werke auf verschiedenen Labels wie Black Flame, Caus-N’-effect oder Miss Moneypenneys. Remixe für Discoqueens wie Gloria Gaynor oder Donna Summer folgten. Nach zwei sehr guten Singles für das Münchner Freistil Label Compost Records folgt nun das Album des Projektes „Sharokh Sound of K.“, dass er mit dem Multiinstrumentalisten Andreas Köhler konzipiert und aufgenommen hat. Den Weg, Housemusic mit mehr musikalischen Grundstrukturen, Arragements und Live-Elemente zu versetzen ist ihnen gut gelungen. Der lounge Grundsound ihrer Produktionen flirtet gerne mit DeepHouse und schafft es oft eine Brücke zu neuen jazzigen Dimensionen zu schlagen. Gerade Stücke wie „Leave your hat on“ dominieren mit dieser Botschaft, wobei die intensive Vocals von Siri Svegler hier einen ganz großen Anteil gebühren. Schön dass die beiden Musiknerds hier sich nicht einer Formel verschrieben haben, denn mit „I Like“ geben sie groovigem Discofunk noch mal einen Chance in das Jetzt zu rutschen, was ja Recloose auch auf seiner aktuellen Platte perfektioniert hat. Auf „Time and again“ machen sie auf eine futurischen Funklevel weiter, dass sich als astreiner Floorshaker offenbart. Das Album ist deshalb so empfehlenswert weil es musikalisch reichhaltig und abwechslungsreich ist und nicht auf „Underground“ macht. Genüsslich darf man hier immer wieder entspannt zurückgelehnt lächeln. Die Platte hat es geschafft. Die zwei Produzenten switchen perfekt in einen bunten Mix ihrer Einflüsse aus Jazz, 80s, House, Disco und Soul. Das ganze wirkt zu jedem Zeitpunkt reif und völlig ungezwungen. Die singenden Gäste wie Robert Owens, Jamie Lloyd oder Toyin Taylor sind vorzüglich ausgewählt. Ist das die Platte die für den Herbst die Wärme bringt? ( 1BEAT MAGAZIN)
