..
In the middle of nowhere, DJ Shark was born near by the biggest lake in Japan. He grew up as ordinary kid. What has made his life change ever was DJing.
When he saw Japanese DJ called GM Yoshi( 3rd prize DMC world), he was shocked and started thinking that he wants to do like that. And then he got two turntables and mixer, practiced it hard everyday. A few years later, he moved to Kyoto and start spinning at club. His name was slowly spreading out there.
1994, he challenged Vestax All Japan DJ Competition, as a result he won the championship in the technical section. But he wasn’t satisfied with that title.
1996, he tried his skill on DMC. In several tough fights, he got 2nd prize in Japan. After that, he got a offer from Technics to develop a mixer together. So they wanted his opinion as DJ to make it sure. Then Techincs succeeded in developing their own mixer called SH-DJ 1200. Needless to say, SH was named after Shark. Even after his fame in DJ scene, he has still been spinning at club and performing at DJ event. During that time, he has also formed DJ team called Beat Tricks. They were playing irregularly around Kyoto.
1999, finally he dropped his first album called “Inqbation” on Mirror Ball/RD Records. “Inqbation” is different from typical turntablist album, that include Dancehall Reggae and Hiphop with Turntablism. It was kind of new style in Japanese turntablist scene at that time. The album was selected as no,2 on the International Hiphop 2000 by Africa Bambaata on Zulu Nation website. At the same time, he started producing other artists and did cuts on other artist’s songs from Hiphop to Reggae to Rock. He also played open up for Africa Bambata, Q-Bert, Z-Trip, Rader, Five Deez and others. 2001, he did promotional Mix CD for Big Dada/Ninja Tune in UK. 2002, he was invited as a guest DJ at Techinics 30th Anniversary show in Yokohama.
Since he came to New York, he has been stayed humble and focused on doing music for his life. He played at End Of The Weak MC challenge and performed as a guest DJ for E.O.W final MC challenge at BB King’s Bar. Boot Camp Clicks has also performed as special guest at that night. 2005~2006, he was spinning at club called Triple Crown in Brooklyn with Large Pro, Steinski, DJ Wiz and some other DJs.
2007, he dropped his first Mix CD here in USA but that one was for promotion. Then he joined Hihop group called Sputnik Brown and put his works on their EP named “U Having Fun Yet?” by High Water Music. EP was distributed by Fat Beats. They also got some good reviews outside states. Musa ( a member of Sputnik Brown) sole had DJ Shark’s scratch on his EP as well.
2008, he has played at lots of venues such as Highline Ballroom, SOB’s, Joe’s
Pub, Hiro Ballroom, Knitting Factory and so on. He has also played for some special event like NY Motor Show, Brooklyn Hiphop Fest, Coney Island
Final Event and even was featured on East Village Internet Radio. Artists whom he played with was DJ Scratch, Rob Swift, PMD, Pete Rock etc. He was working hard to spread his name out in the scene. So NY underground Hiphop scene slowly but surely realized what he is all about.
2009, he is playing as a DJ at clubs and bars sometimes but fewer than 2008
because he is trying to stay focused on making his own music as well. A project called Ballbustas has been running since 2006, now start making their own EP. That one is not typical Hiphop but mixed with Hardcore aggression and real Hiphop. A singer Jorge from metalcore the legend Brooklyn owned Merauder is main guy for this project. Otherwise he did remix for Merauder and other non Hiphop music. He tries to bring his Hiphop flavor into other form of music that makes it unique. So as for his own upcoming EP, its including many elements of music, that’s nothing but DJ Shark Style. He’s very open for any kinds of music and put everything on the tables and chopped them and mix them up then there will be Shak’s special bland.
Building from scratch with samurai spirits in New York from Japan own pride, DJ SHARK.
