the 50's:
R'n'B, Doowop & Gospel, black as night or as Italian as Rome. Frantic rockabilly, Hillbilly Bop, Mambo & Sock Hop tunes. the 60's:
Surf, more R'n'B, early Honky Tonk, Boogaloo, Soul, Frat Rock, Garage Rock, the "Los Angeles Sound", some Mod, some "Freakbeat", early Psych Rock & the unclassifiable. the 70's:
Some soul, some Gospel, even some Funky Disco. Some Krautrock, some Country Rock, New York/SF/Australia/UK punk rock, more Honky Tonk. the 80's:
early 80's LA, some Garage Punk revival. Pretty much no R'n'B. the 90's:
more Garage Punk revival, especially West Coast US. Some early indie stuff, some Hoboken/LES stuff. Still no R'n'B. the 00's:
The new scratchy Back from the Grave-inspired garage punk sound, talented bands that don't fixate on their own chops, bands that can pull off doowop or soul in an authentic way, European bands just peaking on the full potential of garage-punk, bands that make you dance (not just bop), bands that aren't tired. No R'n'B.
