Lemonade, Kateee, music music music, independant record shops, clubs, books books books, writing, coffee, graphic design, philosophy, publishing + printing things, graffiti, short films, cigarettes, open spaces, walking around until I'm lost, friendly barstaff, collecting short-peaked caps, good grammar, loose jeans, sitting round a pub table with three mates, accidental dancing, trying to find picture frames in second hand shops, finches and ducks, looking for the perfect beat, setting fire to stuff.
Music
I started collecting hip-hop and dance music records before I was old enough to know better, bought turntables, started raving in the late 80's; hip hop, techno, house, soul, jazz, reggae; returned to slower, mellower sounds in the early 90's, inspired by discovering sample sources in crackly old disco and funk records and listening to sets of more diverse DJ's. So now after exploring all sections of the record shop - downtempo beats, breaks, disco, funk, soul, jazz, reggae, dub, drum + bass, hip hop, new york / deep house, detroit techno, boogie + rare groove, broken beat, latin, abstract electronica, I listen + buy pretty much anything at all.
My DJ sets tend to be a combination of headnodding dusty hip hop beats, jazzy hooks and vocals, through to disco and funk with ALOT of percussion, combining old tracks with the brand new, with a few club classics tossed in there.
