Michal Smetana aka Slater is head manager and A&R of internationally well-known electronic music label Tribal Vision Records and at the same time one of the most renowned Czech DJs abroad.
His DJ carrier started in the late 90's, during the big boom of dance music in Prague. At the beginning of 2001 he decided to establish a new crew with the objective of organizing own music events - this was the beginning of the Tribal Vision collective.
Tribal Vision has been slowly getting engaged in more and more music-related activities, focusing mainly on a new wave of progressive and minimal sound. In 2004 Slater started to work on the first Czech progressive label and by the end of the year, Tribal Vision Records was born and slowly establishing itself as one of the leading labels on the progressive scene.
Slater has already compiled more than 15 CDs for various labels around the world, icluding famous series of Tribal Vision compilations (Lime Light 1-3, Vanguard 1-2, Cabaret, Street Art, Trash Art...). As a creative director of the label he is to be found behind the album releases of artists such as Vibrasphere, Brisker & Magitman, Tegma, Duca or Fitalic and countless singles and EPs.
Nowadays DJ Slater is playing a unique fusion of progressive, electro and techno, always including a lot of fresh new stuff from related artists and labels. He has already performed at plenty of parties and festivals across the globe, held in almost all the European countries from Portugal to Russia as well as oversea locations such as Japan, Brazil, Canada, Australia, China, Mexico, Israel, Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia or Chile. You could already heard his sets at huge international festivals such as Fusion (DE), Voov Experience / VuuV (DE), Soulclipse (TR), Virada Cultural (BRA), Antaris Project (DE), Ozora (HU), Akasha (AUS), Antiworld (UK), Saucy (MEX), Spirit Base (AT), Atmosphere (CH), Enigma (BRA), Moisture Trance Steamer (MEX) or Fullmoon (DE) as well as prestigious clubs like Paramount and Absolute House (Shanghai), Ambasada Gavioli (Izola), Cube (Tokyo), The Coronet (London), Fiction (Goiania), Comfort 13 (Tel Aviv), Republic (Salzburg), Distillery (Leipzig), Label (Belo Horizonte), Posthof (Linz), Roxy (Prague) and many others.
Besides that, Slater is constantly promoting electronic music in the Czech Republic and co-organizing parties, festivals and label nights. Recently he has been working also on his own production with several releases and remixes scheduled for the next months.
Played in countries so far: Japan, Canada, Australia, Brazil, China, Mexico, Israel, Turkey, Morocco, Switzerland, Russian Federation, Portugal, Sweden, France, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Serbia, Greece, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Poland, Spain, Tunisia, Chile, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovakia, Czech Republic...
Almost Tomorrow is the third full length collaboration album from Section 27 Netlabel founders Tam Ferrans and Andrew Paterson, under their Nonima & theAudiologist guise. This time around the sound is more melodic, and has a definite feeling of a complete and more mature sound than heard on the previous LP's "Dystopian Battle Hymns" and "Ceremony After Amputation". If you are familiar with their individual projects you may even be in for a slight surprise, as the tracks are not as beat driven like before, but are more atmospheric and sound, well... "bigger". In its 75 minutes, Almost Tomorrow takes you on a trip from the digital rain-soaked cavernous scraping in "Thoughtograph", the ethereal beat jittering of "The Colour of Rain", intercepted transmissions from unknown places in "Com-Intercept", "Ganzfeld"s huge yet strangely insect-like beats until everything you knew comes crashing around you in "Almost Tomorrow". Burning pianos, glitched out soundscapes and intricately programmed beatplay, this may well be their best work to date. Consider it the soundtrack to a rainy overcast day, but with just that glimmer of sunshine peeking from the clouds. "Almost Tomorrow" wears its heart on its sleeve.
