D’où vient Dj Snipe ? Du 7.8, plus précisément de Verneuil sur seine, une petite ville tranquille de 15 000 habitants. Snipe, qui s’appelle Christophe, y fait ses débuts dans le deejaying dès ses 18 ans au tout début des années 90. Il anime ses premières soirées sous le nom de dj Chris, puis devient Dj Sniper en 98, Christophe étrenne son nouveau blaze avec une mix tape, « Double mix », qui devient au fil des nouveaux chapitres « To be or not to be, but be R’nb ». Au bout de 9 volumes, le buzz se fait puissant : Sniper en vend jusqu’à 4 000 exemplaires. Suite à l’éclosion du groupe Sniper, Christophe, change de nom et devient Dj Snipe. Il passe à la vitesse supérieur avec « Indépendance r’nb 1 et 2 » , une compile au concept original regroupant le meilleur du r’nb indépendant anglais et américain. On y retrouve des tubes peu identifiés mais star des soirées. Puis Snipe passe à un nouveau projet qui séduit d’office Warner music France : une double compilation associant les tubes r’nb old school avec ceux d’aujourd’hui. « Opération r’nb » est né, il n’y a plus qu’à réaliser le concept. Il compose sa première prod inédite sur « Opération r’nb », et non des moindres : Alfonzo Hunter a posé pour Snipe un « VIP » spécial soirée qui ne passera pas inaperçus. Snipe a raison d’être confiant : grâce à un travail de fond effectué en province et à son programme musical bien choisi, « Opération r’nb » s’impose dès la première semaine de ventes. On verra le disque culminer à la deuxième place du hit des ventes de compilations. Le cd s’écoule à plus de 85 000 exemplaires. Outsider du marché, « Opération r’nb » finira deuxième meilleur vente de l’année 2002 de compiles r’nb. Une grande tournée dans les clubs français sera l’élément décisif pour séduire le grand public. Mais Dj Snipe ne risque pas de se reposer sur ses lauriers : déjà, il a une vison de la suite, histoire de prouver qu’il a le feeling avec le public, il pousse sa maison de disque à sortir le projet « Opération Raï », qui se vend à 140 000 exemplaires pour le premier volume à la surprise de tous (sauf de Snipe, bien sûr). Et 80 000 exemplaires pour le second. Puis Dj Snipe enchaine de nouveaux concept « 3R » sorti en novembre 2002 (ce cd regroupe le meilleur du r’nb, du rap et du ragga). Début 2003 « Opérationr’nb 2 » qui a été annoncé comme le cassa r’nb de l’année, tient toutes ses promesses. Juin 2003, le nouvel opus de Dj Snipe sort dans les bacs. Il s’intitule « The hi hop show », il regroupe les plus gros classiques dancefloor du hip hop U.S de ces dernières années. Avec près de 300 000 ventes de compilations en 2 ans, Dj Snipe a s’u s’imposer sur le marché tant prisé du deejaying. Where does DJ Snipe come from? From the 7.8, and more precisely from Verneuil Sur Seine, a small town of 15,000 inhabitants. Snipe, whose name is Christophe, started in deejaying when he was 18 in the early beginning of the 1990's. He organised his first parties as DJ Chris, and then became DJ Sniper in 1998. He used his new name for the first time in a mix tape called "Double mix", which became over the new volumes "To be or not to be, but be R'nb". After 9 volumes, success came: Sniper sold up to 4,000 tapes. With the birth of the group called "SNIPER", Christophe changed his name and became DJ Snipe. He speeded things up with "Independence r'nb 1 and 2", a compilation album with an original concept as it mixes the best of British and US independent R'nb. In this compilation album we can hear some hits which are not very well known by the general public, but famous in parties. Then, Snipe started a new project which Warner Music France immediately found very attractive: a double compilation album associating old school R'nb hits with today R'nb hits. "Operation r'nb" was born, only the concept was to carry out. Snipe composed his first but not least unreleased work on "Operation r'nb": Alfonzo Hunter placed his voice for Snipe, a special party VIP which did not go unnoticed. Snipe was right to be confident: thanks to an in-depth work in the provinces and to a well-chosen music programme, "Operation r'nb" established itself in record shops from the first week of sales. The album reached the 2nd rank in compilation albums sales. More than 85,000 "Operation r'nb" cds were sold. Outsider in the market, "Operation r'nb" became the 2nd best sale of compilation albums in 2002. A big tour in French nightclubs was then a decisive point to attract the general public. However, DJ Snipe is not the kind to rest on his laurels: he already had a view of what would come next. Just to prove he had a "feeling" with the public, he convinced his record company to bring out the "Operation Raï" project, whose first volume managed to be sold for up to 140,000 copies, which was a surprise for everyone, except for Snipe of course. 80,000 copies of the second volume were sold. Then, DJ Snipe went on with the new "3R" concept which was brought out in November 2002 (this cd mixes the best of r'nb, rap and dancehall hits). At the beginning of 2003, "Operation r'nb 2" which was planned to be the r'nb success of the year, kept its promises. In June 2003, DJ Snipe's new opus is sold in record shops. Its title is "The hip hop show", it mixes the biggest dancefloor classics of US hip hop of the last years. With nearly 300,000 compilation albums sales in 2 years, DJ Snipe established himself in the very popular deejaying market. With his 4 compilation albums, he made a name for himself.
