DJ STEPHEN DURKIN AND PURE NIGHTCLUB PRESENT PURE MADONNA (STICKY AND SWEET AFTER PARTY)
Philadelphia native DJ Stephen Durkin has had music in his veins since an early age, mastering every musical instrument he got his hands on. Learning to play by ear, his instruments of choice included the sax, cello, guitar and drums, which he mastered by age 15, before becoming a full classically trained pianist by age 17. But his eventual true interests were to be found in the world of sound technology.
At age 17 Stephen moved to Center City Philadelphia, and quickly became involved with the music scene. Spending his free time at some legendary parties in NEW YORK and PHILLY Stephen was awash in the mixing styling of DJs JUNIOR VASQUEZ (Palladium) MICHAEL CAVALLONE (The Saint) JOHNNY C.(Kurts) CHIP DISH (Kennel Club) FRANKIE KNUCKLES (Sound Factory) ROBBIE LESLIE (The Saint) BOBBY STARTUP (Revival), Stephen was highly influenced by the individually these parties and DJs displayed, and decided to embark on a DJ career of his own.
Stephen's first DJ residency at Philadelphia's legendary DCA (the biggest after hours club on the East Coast at the time) was a momentous break that eventually lead him to a long time residency at KURTS Philadelphia. KURTS premiered its 10,000 square foot nightclub in 1989 to a city that had never experienced anything quite like its multi million dollar sounds and light show, and was the perfect environment for Stephen to develop a strong Philadelphia following that stands even stronger today.
After KURTS unfortunate closing in 1993 Stephen was forced to take his career to the next level and explore other major cities, which he started with by preforming a series of fundraiser parties including 3 PEIR PRESSURE events (with performer GRACE JONES each attended by over 5,000 people!); DANCE WITH DOPHINS (held at the New Jersey State Aquarium). From there, Stephen landed bookings in NEW YORK CITY, BATIMORE, CONNECTICUT, WASHINGTON DC, NEW YORK CITY, FIRE ISLAND, RHODE ISLAND, REHOBOTH BEACH.
Currently Stephen holds regular bookings at many premiere nightspots in North East America: WOODYS (Philadelphia), 12th AIR COMMAND (Philadelphia), STONEWALL (Allentown), CLUB XS (Penna), SHAMPOO (Philadelphia), PURE (Philadelphia), BUMP (Philadelphia), TWIST (Penna), TRU (Atlantic City) RAINBOW MOUNTAIN (Pocono Mountains), TAYLORS (New Jersey), HIPPO (Baltimore), CLUB 1722 (Baltimore) ROUGE & 59 LAKE (Rehoboth Beach), BOATSLIP (P-Town Rhode Island) "G" NIGHTCLUB (New York City), ICE PALACE (Fire Island) just to name a few.
In today’s ever changing Dance scene, what continues to set Stephen apart from his DJ peers, is his ability to mix and create audio soundscape’s that excel far beyond a typical night in a club. He does this is by using his own post productions to 90 percent of his music collection via his home recording studio, where he can also be found creating many of his own tracks. Stephen regularly creates official (and un-official) mixes of major recording artists including MICHAEL M's - DEAR DIARY (STEPHEN DURKIN REMIX) which was officially released in 2007 internationally on AMPITUDE RECORDS, as well as many unofficial remixes for major artists like MADONNA, , RIHANNA, AVENUE D GIRLS, KELLY CLARKSON, CHRISTINA AGUILERA, GWEN STEFANI and BRITNEY SPEARS which have been downloaded over 100.000 times and have become staples among many big rooms DJs, both locally and internationally.
Stephen goes on to explain his view of a night’s performance, "Formatting is VERY important when trying to expose people to new music, while still providing them with a familiar vibe. I use every tool available to create a familiar, yet unique musical environment. I am best known for the inevitable peak time frenzy."
If one HAD to describe Stephen’s musical vibe, it would be, familiar Vocals with a Tech House edge, infused with Tribal influences. But why describe it when you can hear it for yourself! Be sure to check out Stephens upcoming events.
Hey, hope all is well! Come by the page and check out my newest tunes "Midnight Rush" and "Gamer's Delight" recently added to the player when you get a chance.
"Midnight Rush" has a more Brookes Brothers/Futurebound vibe while "Gamer's Delight" is just full-blown dirty analog bliss. Leave some love if you like what you hear, it's always appreciated. Big up!
