About me:

Putting Chicago back on the map is the passion that drives this DJ. DJ Strike It Up has always been attracted to the source of what makes music - the musicians and the DJ's. Growing up in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago during the 80's only fueled this attraction even more when the classic break dancing battles would go down @ Jefferson Park by 18th and Jefferson street. Strike It Up would always be observing what the DJ's did with their hands on the mixer along with the wheels of steel aka the turntables.

The scratching, the pounding bass, DJ's doing tricks with the mixer so fast, that you could hardly see his hands is what got Strike It Up hooked to spinning at such a young age - DJ Strike It Up made sure he paid dues by becoming a student of the game, local neighborhood DJs took him under their wing and shared the knowledge that Strike It Up desired, and that's what fuled his ever growing love for Chicago's dance music.

Through his teenage years, Strike It Up stayed local, spinning at daytimes, neighborhood parties and raves, his talents as a DJ remained a secret to the rest of Chicago and at one point, some feared that his DJ talents were lost and forgotten when DJ Strike It Up walked away from the turntables to concentrate on college and his academic future. To the delight of his old school friends and supporters, once DJ Strike It Up graduated with a college degree, he decided to revisit his first and only love - spinning music. The love was stronger - it burned more than ever before, and at the same time, that love fueled a thirst for new music, new sounds, a new musical frontier.

DJ Strike It Up ventured into the world of Progressive, Euro, Hip Hop, and Global House music, earning himself a guest DJ spot @ Silk Night Club and finally earning an invitation from DJ Erge to become a resident DJ at Silk Night Club where he made a name for himself spinning Euro, Hip Hop and Progressive music, but DJ Strike It Up never forgot his love for the Old School music...

Those Old School roots caught the attention of Magic Juan from WCYC Entertainment, who was looking for some new DJ talent to bring into his promotions – and DJ Strike It Up was the perfect fit. Spinning for WCYC’s Freestyle concerts and events earned DJ Strike It Up a residency that continues 'til this very day @ Studio 63 Nightclub along side 5 year Studio resident DJ John Hernandez – who later joined the Supreme Sounds family. For the past 2 years – DJ John Hernandez and DJ Strike It Up proved to be an awesome combination as they put Studio 63 back on top as one of the hottest nightclubs on the Southside.

But spinning all those old school classics @ Studio 63 Night Club for the past 2 years doesn't mean that he's stuck in the past - Progressive, Euro, UK Hard House, Dance, Chicago House, Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia and Hip Hop continue to be a part of this man's arsenal. Being versitile with various music styles has earned Strike It Up guest spots @ some of Chicago's hottest night spots such as Chromium, Vision, La Quinta, Dante's, Minx, Xavier’s, Club UN, Club Euro Vibe, Transit, Betty Blue Star Lounge, Tini Martini, and special DJ appearances @ Navy Pier for the DUB Series Car show and Import Revolution and @ McCormick Place for Hot Import Night Car Show along with past club residencies @ Mardi Gras, Spot 6, Rico's Bar and Grill, Saphire Night Club and Silk Night Club & The Prop House.

Now a days DJ Strike It Up keeps true to his Pilsen roots as he throws down for 90.5 FM Hot Mix DJ Team and he also hosts "FreeStyle Fridays"

And besides being the Saturday Resident DJ at Studio 63, you can also catch DJ Strike It Up at his new Friday Night Residency @ Betty Blue Star

So what's next for DJ Strike It Up? MUSIC - thats whats next! The passion still burns and his goal is still to be a part of the effort by local DJs to put Chicago back on the map.

Who I'd like to meet:

Well its 2008 – so its time to update the info about me…

Where do I begin? Im a Mexican-American male from the southside of Chicago. Whats the first thought that comes to mind when you see a latino with a shaved head and a goatee?

Well, I think I break all those classic stereo types of your average latin male. I’m a college educated latino with a degree in accounting – single with no kids – and I live on my own, not with my parents. Am I a rare find or what?

I currently work in the downtown area of Chicago as an accountant for a non for profit dental association. I’m also a nightclub DJ who happens to dabble with remixing and producing. I also co-host a Friday night radio show with 2 great friends of mine.

In my spare time, I run a youth group at my old high school in the Back of the Yards Community, St Joseph’s @ 48th and Hermitage. I have about 30 great kids – all teenagers! Believe me when I tell you that I have a great group of kids, they are a truly a joy to work with. People ask me why I do so much for my community, and my answer is always the same, I love my community and I want to see all of these kids make it out of the "hood" - I was lucky enough to have people from my community look out for me when I was growing up, and now this is my way of giving back to my community. I also do this because no one else does it.

Too many times I hear people complain about their neighborhood, but I never see no one do anything about it! I have even challenged my "haters" out there to forget about the hate and do something for your community! Sadly not one of challenges has ever been taken up by any of these “losers.” So this is my message to everyone out there:

STOP COMPLAINING - STOP HATING - STOP ALL THE NEGATIVE ENERGY AND DO SOMETHING POSITIVE FOR A CHANGE - PICK UP A PAINT BRUSH AND PAINT OVER SOME GRAFFITTI - OR GO PLANT SOME FLOWERS OR TREES AND MAKE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD LOOK NICE - GO PICK UP SOME GARBAGE AND HELP MAKE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD LOOK CLEAN - GO MENTOR A KID - GO BE A TUTOR - GO DO SOMETHING THAT BOTH YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR COMMUNITY CAN BE PROUD OF!

So who would I like to meet? I would love to meet all the clubbers out there, I would love to meet everyone who has supported my music, my club residencies - I would love to meet people who are on the same level as me, people who value their heritage - their community - their friends - and most importantly - THEIR FAMILY!
